Possibly on the flat but absolutely not true whe I and many other people ride. The main factor for most people is gradient. Wind resistance usually only comes into effect when travelling downhill and then gravity provides free assistance.

I know about the automatic gearbox culture as I also have a Model A Ford and am a member of a forum based in the US. Every now and again there are threads about people having to learn or relearn how to use a manual gearbox.

Why do people accept chain and transmission problems with e-bikes? Over the years I have given my mountain bikes a hard time but they have always been up to the job. As I have said elsewhere it makes me believe that too many e-bike manufacturers use components that are just not fit for purpose.

Hi from another part of France a fair way to the south west of you. I enjoy my e-bike on the quiet lanes of the Poitou Charente, a very different experience to the busy Parisien streets. I still have my motorcycle but use it much less for local journeys than I did before.

I'm not sure that now having a e-bike will make a huge difference to my using a car but I think it will certainly cut down on the local trips on my motorcycle.
