    450 miles and counting

Welcome to the E-bike world Jeff - you won't regret buying one. A good friend of mine just bought a Trek Verve + and I thought it was a very fine bike. I'm very glad to see you are happy with it and I'm sure she will be too. I hope it helps you with your health problems, but I know it will...

Survey for those with higher mileage (2000+) ebikes

I am just coming up on 8000 km (5000 miles) on my Surface 604 Colt. I bought it 18 months ago and have ridden it around 13 months as I don't ride with snow on the ground. I replaced 1 chain, a set of brake pads and the rear tire - front tire is still original. The only call to the company was...

Let's see your best pic of your electric bicycle

Being retired, I've got lots of time to volunteer. The main organization that I volunteer for is the local historic Streetcar Society. So, this picture shows 4 vehicles that I get to drive - all of them are a good time.

    Let's be careful out there!

Very glad to hear that your son is OK and will mend. Life just bites you once in a while regardless of how careful we are. I fell last year at very low speed while making a left turn on a new asphalt bike bath. I didn't see the thin layer of mud and water on the path and the front wheel slid...

How do you primarily use your ebike?

I envy the folks who can ride all year. In my part of Canada, we get a fairly long winter and once the snow hits and stays, I quit riding until spring. I fear the ice patch under the snow and my old bones are brittle and will break easily. I rode until October 30th last year as it snowed and...

    Rude remarks by non-ebikers

I agree we older folk may get a pass. I have heard a lot of "cheating" comments but they have all been in good humor. I was passing the Pelaton on a nasty hill the other day and they all ignored me except for one guy who yelled "how much for a tow?". I have had my E-bike for 2 seasons and...

Sunpost SP12 NCX vs. Thudbuster seatpost

I have the Suntour NCX Seatpost on my bike. I purchased it in April and have about 3000 km on the bike since then. I ride to around the end of October (when the snow comes) and then I quit until the next April. My old bones are too brittle to ride in the snow and take a tumble!! Anyway, the...

Known Issues & Problems with Surface 604 Products + Help, Solutions & Fixes

The screw holding the front light also helps to hold the front fender. When the screw gets loose, it allows the fender to move lower toward the tire. When the screw is loose, ensure that the fender is as far up away from the tire as it will go and then tighten it up. These fenders are a bit...

Flat tire and battery fell out!

If you have this style battery check for this screw and make sure it is tight! I was able to put the battery back in. It generally stayed put but to be safe, I wrapped it with some electrical tape that I borrowed from work. Once I got home, I was able to find a replacement screw and I used...

    Should wearing helmet be optional?

And I guess your health care providers should be free to refuse you service if you are overweight because you eat too much or don't exercise - probably way worse overall than not wearing a bike helmet. By all means, lets have a bunch of petty bureaucrats sit down and legislate all areas of our...

    Should wearing helmet be optional?

I always wear a helmet as it has saved me a couple of times. If anyone asks my advise, I always tell them to wear a helmet. However, if they made me King, I still wouldn't pass a law making other people wear one. Ultimately, it is a decision that the individual should make - my opinion.

    Beware the Bicycle Lane

"So does anyone have 2 way bike lanes where they live?" We have them in Edmonton Canada. I think they are wider than the ones you mention because I've never felt there was a problem passing someone going the opposite way. Like all bike lanes though, there are a few things to watch for in my...

    Just got a Shred

I don't have a Shred but after reading this thread, it is obvious that Surface 604 has a problem with this bike. What do they say about this problem? I have a Colt and Surface 604 has been very helpful the couple of times I've called. Anyway, I hope you all get this sorted out as the Shred...

Show us pictures of where you ride your ebikes!

Hard to compete with many of the pictures shown above - makes me very jealous of where some of you live. Anyway, here are a few pictures from around the river valley in Edmonton where I live. There is a picture of the Riverboat as well as a picture of the historic Streetcar running across the...

Poll: Do you wear a helmet when riding

You make a very important point Bruce, that I try to use in all my discussions with people about cycling. The better the infrastructure, the more people cycle and leave cars at home. This makes it a little better for people in cars as well. However, many people are so car oriented and have...

Poll: Do you wear a helmet when riding

I would ride without a helmet in the Netherlands because they have a bicycle infrastructure that they have developed over the last 60 years or so that is the best in the world. More importantly though, they have a respect for cyclists because almost everyone rides a bike and riding a bike is...

Poll: Do you wear a helmet when riding

I I had a similar experience where my helmet saved me. I was riding up a paved alley by some apartment buildings when I encountered a sewer crew working in the alley. I saw that I could cut into a parkade and zip around the crew as there were no cars parked in it and the roof was quite high...

Let's see your best pic of your electric bicycle

Finally got out for a ride in Edmonton Canada. High today around 60 degrees Fahrenheit. Picture is overlooking our historic rail bridge and the river. And yes, that is ice in the river.

Poll: Do you wear a helmet when riding

I always wear a helmet because I seem to need one. It saved me twice last year and I couldn't imagine riding without one. If I lived in the Netherlands and could ride around on their system, I might try it without. However, my city is a long way from the Netherlands. Where I live, most...

    Is it spring yet??

Spring has not sprung in Edmonton, Canada either. We just broke a record from 1975 by having a temperature below 0 degrees Celsius ( 32 degrees Fahrenheit for the good folks from the USA) sometime during the 24 hour period, for 167 consecutive days starting last October 29th. We had a nice...
