    Is 72V Safe?

Would you care to clarify the part that I have put in bold. I redesigned and repurposed older machines for a living. I used the following formula. MH + M +CFM = QO That is Material Handling plus the Machine plus a Complete F'ing Moron = Quality of Output. A CFM is a special kind of Moron...

    Is 72V Safe?

Unless you want to go fast all the time, 72V is probably overkill. If you are going to be under 20 mph then I would rather have 52V As far as safe, DC voltage is far more deadly than AC voltage once you exceed the resistance of your skin to electrical flow. I researched it and came to the...

Can a mid drive ebike pull a trailer / cargo as well as a rear hub?

I am pulling 140 lb with a BBSHD on a fat bike without issues.

    Why do ebikes need gears?

500 Watts and bicycle components, dictates gears.

    Why do ebikes need gears?

I have been at this game long enough that I don't see any really off topic discussion here. This is all further breakdown of why we need gears on an e bike. Gears are not going away anytime soon. Automatic transmissions are much more likely than transmission elimination. Elimination of gears...

    Why do ebikes need gears?

Like me, you have obviously tried and found out that the problem with an e bike is that it's a gd bicycle. Not a motorcycle and the regs are written near the max already. These guys who think they are going to convert a threaded headset comfort bike with a big motor and cruise at 25-28 mph for...

    250W E-bike mid-drive motors hardly outperforms 250W hub motors

On my touring setup I can push well over 400 lb loaded up. I use between 15 and 25Wh per mile depending on climbing and headwinds.

    Why do ebikes need gears?

    That is marketing, not definition.

    Why do ebikes need gears?

There is really no grey areas in the e bike definitions. The ultimate restraint is power, not speed. There is legal and illegal. I NEED all 11 gears on my e bike from my 11X46 tooth cassette. Cuz it's a bicycle, not a motorcycle. Need of course, is subjective.

    250W E-bike mid-drive motors hardly outperforms 250W hub motors

    50-60 is right with a 49Ah battery

    Why do ebikes need gears?

Because cars don't top out at 1 hp. I should say that tongue in cheek because of the way the e bike regulations are written. They are written as motor output, not battery draw power. Motor output has to do with rotational speed of the motor. A 3000 watt bike motor is not actually putting out...

    250W E-bike mid-drive motors hardly outperforms 250W hub motors

On pavement, I think a hub motor is probably a better choice. I ride about 80% of the time on pavement. At times I am riding at 8-10 mph and my power consumption is on the order of 50-60 watt hours per mile. I will take my mid drive in those situations. The odd pavement situation that I have...

8500 miles in a year hard to believe.

I have had an e bike since early 2016 and keep doubling my miles every year. This year I am on target for 6-7k miles. My speed and distances per ride along with watt hour creep is ongoing. 8,500 miles is tough to get where you have significant winters and ski a lot.

    foldable vs wired tires

In 13,000 miles I have had one set of wire bead fat tires that I have run about 500 miles before getting a puncture I could not fix. Junked them. All the other miles have been on folding bead high TPI tires that got me between 4-6k miles of wear. False most of the time. Better tires have...

    Fat tire trailers

I cut out and remanufactured the shock and wheel mount. Then I cut out the bottom mount for the yoke and added a longer mount in front.

    foldable vs wired tires

Wire bead tires are heavier and usually made with a lower thread count (TPI) than foldable beads. The wire version will be the cheaper tire and may be more appropriate for many e bike applications. If you believe that weight of e bikes as far as handling is concerned does not matter and if...

    Fat tire trailers

I ordered one of these trailers and the trailer that came was different from the Website description. What came is a larger trailer. The Web listed the bed at 14" X 24" and this trailer came as 17' X 27". The larger size is immense and can pack everything. The payload is listed as 100 lb...

    EBike Touring Journals

There really is not a good alternative yet to posting there so I finally started a journal. I don't really understand why Neil did not want e bikes in the regular journal. That was a big mistake on his part.

Multi Class Mode ebikes....compliant or ????

Is it legal to have an automobile that will exceed the maximum speed limit? Should it be? Should we have a total police state? Some people are just not satisfied until everything is regulated to attempt to eliminate stupidity. There is no shortage of stupidity. I have six settings on my...
