My 1000w motor journey and fear mongering by users of the forum!

The rule makers were very highly educated when the originally wrote the regs and manufacturers don't just arbitrarily label anything they want. Just ask Volks Wagon on that one. The regs were written to give great leeway to put punch and the feeling of power into a bike at lower speeds while the...

My 1000w motor journey and fear mongering by users of the forum!

The way the regs are written, everything is crystal clear about e bikes and power. What causes the issues is that very few people on these forums understand electric power, electric motors and the regs. Most relate their understanding to gasoline engines. You can be pulling 1,560 watts of...

Schwalbe Johnny Watts (and other Schwalbe SUV tyres) User Club

Hi All: Considering running Jonny Watt's 2.6 on 622- 42 rims on my fatbike for the GDMBR next summer. I tend to run lower tire pressures than most everyone else. Right now I have a set of G One All Round 2.35's on the bike running 24 psi front and 26 psi rear. Is there anyone out there with...

remove bike grease stains off clothes

Harbor Freight sells a yellow degreaser for $10 a gallon that is so good it will remove bicycle grease from a totally stained towel. It's good enough that I no longer throw greasy rags away. I just wash them. What works best is to spray it on the stain, use a toothbrush and then hard spray with...

    Inclement Weather E-Biking

Yesterday I ordered a waterproof e bike display to replace the aging water resistant display that I have had for the last 16k miles . Now I should be able to ride in the rain without a baggy over the electronics. Still need to do something about the non-water-resistant watt meter I have been...

    Inclement Weather E-Biking

Deep snow is fun to play in. The diggers are slow motion but remember to eject from the bike or you will be under the bike fighting to get out. In this photo I went across a drifted ditch. I bogged down a bit and then the rear wheel spun. Over I went. I did eject but left a divot When the...

    Inclement Weather E-Biking

I ride year-round. Here are the winter tires. I have heated grips, saddle and batteries I don't care to bike below about 10 deg F -12C

    E-bike Kits for senior rider

If the front fork is steel, I would say yes. If the front fork is cast aluminum, I would say no. I have seen to many broken aluminum fork dropouts due to the torque a front hub can cause. Very injury prone failure.

    Long distance riding

It's the tail wag and bike oscillations that I am trying to get away from. My current bike will set up an oscillation above 35mph when fully loaded or when too slow. Not sure if the problem is in with the Bluto fork, the frame, the head tube angle or what.

    Long distance riding

I might follow WilliamT's lead and look for a used Rad Wagon with the halong type battery instead of the newer Bafang battery setup and just play with it. Keep it as a spare to torture friends with. I have not been on one and want to know how they really handle with a load.

    Long distance riding

The Optibike is getting right up there to the point where I find it hard to match on DIY build. I can build something that better optimizes my riding style at 95% of the off-road capability for perhaps as little as $10k. The other 5% is probably beyond what I should be doing anyway. That is...

Now I get why people change the cassette

There are times when I am ghost pedaling in order to get maximum performance out of my bike. That is max power output for climbing. At a touring weight of 420 lbs and a climb of 20% grade I have 49 amp hours at 52 volts and I need about 1100 watts motor output @130 Nm of torque to climb at...

    Long distance riding

45 lbs of batteries trump my 28 lbs 78 amp hours vs 49 amp hours. Way better mileage than I get also but I have only recorded long trips with hills and head winds. How does that bike handle with all that weight on it?

Now I get why people change the cassette

I have a bike with a 42 tooth chainring and and 11X46 , 11 speed rear cassette. I roll through every gear on a normal ride and shift constantly. I have a 52 volt BBSHD mid drive. I wear out the 13 tooth cog first and the 11 and 15 second. I get probably 3-4 k miles out of my 13 tooth and 5-6...

    Longest rides

My bike is a pig for mileage. It's the 18 wheeler of bicycles. I need to trim and take a little different route because I want to do the Great Divide Mountain Bike route next summer. I need to be able to do 135 miles on dirt/sand and probably some headwinds on one charge. Not happening with...

    Longest rides

My longest one-day ride was 174 miles on one charge. I set out to do try for max and did a local big loop. I did not have a pack, or the dog and was riding on 29" Schwalbe G-One tubeless tires. My saddle is an Infinity Seat saddle. My average speed was 13.7 mph and I used 2019 Wh (46.4Ah...
