Probably not. If stored for much longer the grease might get stiff.

Once again exploring new e touring bikes.

Explorer-1, like you I have found the biggest problem with a long distance DIY E bike is that it's a damned bicycle, therefore limited for weight carrying capacity and still have an enjoyable to ride low maintenance bike. I have done a fair number of bike packing tours and my conclusion is to...

Once again exploring new e touring bikes.

I am once again exploring what is available out there in e touring bikes or what may be just over the horizon. I built a e touring bike in 2016 because there was nothing even close to what I needed on the shelf. Things appear to be getting much closer and adding to the stable rather than build...

Do you carry an extra battery?

I don't actually carry what would be termed as a spare. I have four batteries in parallel for a total of 52 volts @ 49 ah. (2,540 watt hr) I built this bike for the Great Divide Mountain Bike Route. Furthest one day ride was around 172 miles. I charge with a 15 amp charger for a charge rate...

    Trip Planning

Mr. Coffee, have read a lot of journals on CGOAB and one theme keeps standing out and its pretty much what you describe. It seems those who over plan down to making reservations for the trip with set dates do not often complete their routes. It seems they are miserable and give up during...

looking to buy an infinity saddle

If my Infinity saddle broke I would have to buy a new one. It is the only saddle that gets more comfortable the longer you sit on it. 12 hours a day is fine. I broke one and repaired it with carbon fiber and epoxy. It worked but changed the flex of the saddle and it was no longer as...

So what's your other hobbies or interests?

Through the western canal to Tonawanda. I can drop the mast and the bimini top and get down to 13.5 ft at the top of the windscreen.

So what's your other hobbies or interests?

Do it! You will be in exclusive club. More people are struck by lightening in the USA than complete the great loop each year. More than half those who do, follow your plan. They purchase a ready to go boat that likely just completed the Great Loop and then sell it when they are finished. We...

So what's your other hobbies or interests?

Well, I travel by boat. I have a Hatteras 42 Long Range Cruiser. This spring over 77 days I brought it back from Madisonville Louisiana to Lorain Ohio. 3,250 miles. Displacement 23 tons, Fuel 2.5 tons, water 1 ton. Speed 7.5 knot @ 3 gph. with Detroit 453's. Yes the E bike was on board.

I did buy the boat and have now spent about 10 days on it. The boat is in better shape than I thought when I purchased it. I have been out on it twice.

the intention is that this is a second home. We completed the purchase, now the work to get it ready begins but the boat is 1,000 miles from home. The boat is not very compatible with E bikes. That is another problem to solve.

Do you still ride your analog bicycle?

The experiment went four blocks down to the mailbox and back. I was chanting too many colorful adjectives to ever consider this bike. I bought this bike back when I was half the age I am now, and I owned an airplane. Once you ride a really good E bike you are damaged goods from then on.

Do you still ride your analog bicycle?

I am digging out a dinosaur bike as we speak, gag me. I just bought 42' boat 1,000 miles away in Louisiana. I have been warned by the locals not to try to have an e bike like mine anywhere near docks and boats. Their recommendation is to get something cheap. Suddenly my purpose-built...

    Ease my paranoia, Storage solutions

Talked to someone today that had their e bike tip over on the dock and go in the salt water. The retrieved the bike within a couple of minutes but the battery started to catch fire a minute or two after they got the bike out. They tossed the bike back in the water and took it out an hour later...

    Ease my paranoia, Storage solutions

I am having too many negative thoughts about taking my E Fatbike aboard my boat. All I envision is pain-in-the-ars solutions and theft. For one, I have never let my E bike out of my sight, such as at a store. This bike would suddenly be my primary transportation and out of my sight when doing...

Its a displacement hull, You can't drive it much above 7.8 knots without severe increases in full consumption and 9.6 knots is max

It holds 700 usable gallons of diesel. 2 gph at 6 knots 3 gph at 7 knots 6.6 gph at 8 knots 14 gph at 9.6 knots. That all seems high, but you have to look at your fuel bill on an annualized basis instead of per hour or per mile.

I am under contract to buy a Hatteras 42 LRC trawler and the survey went pretty well so I will buy her. The thread title just makes it feel a bit more down to earth as there is a lot of work involved because the boat has had very little use for some time. The bikes will be aboard for our...
