    Chain Life

I've been using a Yamaha PW powered to commute to and from work on asphalt, fire roads, and occasionally very bad potholed streets. Over 3000 miles. No issues.

Why Electric Bikes Shouldn't Be Allowed on Mountain Biking Trails?

I like to think that I understand why this is so, but should it be? If the number of erring cyclists is low, then surely banning them specifically will control that problem sufficiently, no? That and a hefty fine should be enough to keep the irresponsible in check. If the majority abide by the...

Riding an e-bike in "no-assist" mode - how heavy is ok?

I generally shut off power when I'm in a slow speed zone (less than 15 kph). These are usually high pedestrian traffic areas where power would be dangerous. Sometimes, I get off and walk the bike. Having said that, I don't pedal for more than a few km in "off" mode. I have other bikes in my...

Do you get more exercise riding an electric bike?

I'm actually the reverse. It probably depends on individual physical advantages or disadvantages, proclivities, preferences, and such. I am still relatively young. 42. I got the ebike not because I can no longer pedal well, but because I was starting to find commuting 16 miles to work a little...

    Quick-E+

The Giant brand rear rack should work well. They can either attach to side frame eyelets, or to the center eyelet that also holds the fenders. The bottom of the rack mounts directly onto the rear quick-release axle - the rack comes with a longer replacement axle for the rear wheel.

Should bikes with the Bosch 500wh battery and motor have the same approximate range?

I've put 3000 miles on a Dirt-E with a Yamaha motor. On largely flat-ish terrain, it does 50 miles in normal traffic. Have about 3 significant bridges with climbs to cross, and the terrain rolls mildly rather than being absolutely flat. Feels flat on a car and on the ebike, but you definitely...

Night time riding with an Ebike

I used to ride at night regularly for fun. I also prefer to ride early enough in the mornings that it's still dark. Visibility is a major issue. You can suddenly encounter serious road hazards without seeing them on account of bad lighting conditions. Worse in the rain. Aside from multiple rear...

    Dirt-E 2

4800 km update As planned, I've been using the bike as a commuter platform. This disclaimer is to contextualize Tom W's crankset failure in another thread. I do not know how the bike will perform on serious off road applications, and I don't know that I would try that with this bike. As he...

    Giant dirt e battery

I have a Dirt E 2 bike and it sort of has the same "problem." I think Court may have the right of it. The bike comes with some specific documentation telling you that it's not a good idea to charge it to 100 percent, which is apparently true of all Li ion batteries, so the charger has a green...

    Quick-E+

For new bikes of any sort, there's a bedding in period of a couple months where the chain and the cables stretch. If the front derailleur or rear derailleur cables have stretched, it's possible that the limiting screws aren't limiting the chain from shifting outside the gears, though the tuning...

    Range: Fact vs. Fiction

I use the Giant Dirt-E 2. Yamaha mid drive + Giant components. It's still on the stock Energypak 400, which I assume has about 418 Wh of electricity, though I usually just use 400 Wh. Could be less. I usually get 80km (about 50 miles) taking the bike generally from 90% ish to 30% ish on Normal...

    Dirt-E 2

I'm going to make a confession right off. I'm not a habitual or regular trail rider. The main reason I got the Dirt-e was because it was the most available ebike in my locality and it had the best aftersales support. I got the 2016 spec with the 400 Wh battery. It's the International version...
