Research finds painted bike lanes can lead to closer calls with cars

I live out in a suburban California community that was designed around the car, but has made some effort to retrofit for bikes, including our Pacific Electric trail, which is almost like a bike freeway. Unfortunately their other idea of a bike lane is to paint a 3 foot wide stripe on a 6 lane...

    Reckless ebikers

E bikes are still a rarity here- the hardest thing is dodging oblivious walkers who put headphones in and plant themselves in the middle of the bike path (there’s a separate path for walkers). Bonus points if they accessorize with a couple of large, mean dogs they can barely control. I don’t...

Raleigh Redux IE 2018- my review

I use a dry lubricant (WD 40 makes a special one for bikes) because I live in a very dry, dusty area. I don’t do much off road.

Raleigh Redux IE 2018- my review

That’s good to know. I also worry about spray on cleaner working it’s way into the motor.

Raleigh Redux IE 2018- my review

I’ve also noticed with my Lore that with an ebike, you really DO have to clean and oil the chain after every few rides. I noticed a big difference in my Bikes performance when I began doing that. The chain had started getting noisy and shifting wasn’t as smooth. First thought the derailleur...

    Single speed or 7 speed?

Pedego bikes have throttles, and their comfort cruiser is right in that price range.

    Single speed or 7 speed?

If you’re doing that kind of light riding, would it be possible to find a single speed bike with a throttle? If you’re biking after a long hiatus, and have disabilities, shifting gears is one more thing to have to coordinate/think about.

    What's your dream ebike?

Light. I want to be able to pick it up, and use a regular bike to transport. Somewhat Upright riding position I want to feel me energy going into the bike as speed and motion. If I didn’t care about that, I’d get a scooter. That being said, a throttle would be nice to get across some of our...

Juggernaut Ultra FS - Where to mount a bottle cage?

A lot of e bikes have no attachment for a bottle cage because of the downtube battery location. I purchased one of these. Doesn’t interfere with steering and it’s great. https://moosetreksbikepacking.com/product/moosetreks-bike-handlebar-stem-bag/ I also use it to pack Halt! Spray and a snack.

    Trouble finding comfort bike frame

You might be interested in this thread. Individual converted a Trek Pure, which is definitely a comfort bike, to electric. Of course it’s aluminum, not steel. He mentioned that his wife has been really happy with the conversion...

    Noseless bicycle seat--a love story

I wonder I’d one of these seats with independently adjustable pads would work for someone with one leg slightly longer than the other. I think I’m having that problem with my seat height, thanks to my scoliosis.

    Noseless bicycle seat--a love story

Thank you for sharing your experience- I also found a cruiser seat to be very uncomfortable- it might be ok for peddling around the beach, but it didn’t work for me otherwise. Right now, I’m using a Terry woman’s touring saddle, and that’s much better but not perfect. A noseless might be worth a...

I'm stumped - Does such a bicycle even exist?

There are any number of bikes that could work, if you find an LBS that is competent to swap out the handlebars. Some bike shops I approached didn’t feel comfortable doing it. This is a Raleigh lore. Propel Biles changed out the handlebars and added spacers to make it more upright. Still half...

So, how many miles do you get on a charge?

i have the 500w battery and performance line motor. It looks like I’d get about 60 miles out of it on streets and bike trails, although longest I ride is 20 miles at a time. That uses 25-30% of the battery so it looks like 60 is about right.

New ebike rider from southern Utah

Congratulations! I think you’ll love it. I bought this bikes cousin, the Lore. I think they share many of the same components. I’ve had it for 2 months, ride every day I can, and really enjoy it.

    Bike Wheel Locking Nuts

My bike has through axles- so I take it these security devices wouldn’t work? My community in the burbs seems to be incredibly casual about bike security- I often see people park their bikes in front of our local markets without locking them at all, and where they are locked, 90% of people use...

    I hate your ebike...

Funny that- I’ve been riding my ebike for a couple of months now, and the male road bikers that I’ve run into (some are my neighbors) have been friendly and supportive, if slightly bossy. It’s other women bikers who haven’t been friendly. Not sure why.
