Cycling shorts make quite a difference for longer rides, and there are some rather nice, conventional looking ones on the market. I wear lycra cycling shorts under regular cargo shorts and that works well for me, when Im on the bike for more then a few hours.

Calvin - You need one for every type of riding. They are function specific, you know :)

Are Americans savvy enough to discern the difference between high-tech and low-tech electric bikes?

Very good points Eddie. Its more then just the initial product. Its the complete experience. We strive to do this at the very highest levels because we know people depend on their eBikes for transportation as well as recreation. Sometimes consumers don't understand this when making a buying...

Are Americans savvy enough to discern the difference between high-tech and low-tech electric bikes?

George - I think you may be missing my point. We have low-price, low-technology, throttle actuated products and yes, they sell quite well and people seem to like them, for the most part and we have sold 100's of thousands of them in the US. But in the last few years, battery technology has...

Pedego Interceptor 2 - Any alternatives?

Are Americans savvy enough to discern the difference between high-tech and low-tech electric bikes?

All great points, Court. In reality, the variables are all just beginning to converge to create a market in the US. Today, distribution is at issue. The best marketing in the world won't help much if you don't have points of distribution where consumers can have a great demonstration experience...

Are Americans savvy enough to discern the difference between high-tech and low-tech electric bikes?

Correct - More is not necessarily better, depending on what your talking about. Motor wattage is one of those things -- the higher the wattage, the more battery you consume riding -- that is why these center motor systems are really amazing -- This Gen1 Bosch System is 250w, but it generates...

    Haibike eQ Xduro Cross

Eddie - Great initial review. Yes, you do have some drive system noise because of the gear reduction system but that translates into added torque (especially due to the bikes own drive acting as a manual transmission) and efficiency (because a 250w motor - in you case because this is an EU...

Are Americans savvy enough to discern the difference between high-tech and low-tech electric bikes?

Thanks so much for your kind comments on the Path+! This latest generation of product, I believe, will begin to reverse the throttle trend that has unfolded in recent years because a good pedal-assist bike is actually more intuitive then a throttle…..start pedaling and the power is proportional...

Are Americans savvy enough to discern the difference between high-tech and low-tech electric bikes?

Hi Calvin - Well I hope you are right that we are on the cusp. I've been in the bicycle industry for over 40 years and e-bikes for the last 12. So I'm more then ready! IMHO, its really all about the ride feel and I do think bike dealers are more sensitive to this then most consumers at this...

2014 Easy Motion Neo Jumper 650B

I'm interested in hearing Ravi's thoughts after riding. Eddie - Actually it is attached to the spring arm so its not un-sprung weight. This is the reason that most full suspension electric mountain bikes use center motors. But the Neo Jumper is short travel, so it may not be much of a factor as...

Are Americans savvy enough to discern the difference between high-tech and low-tech electric bikes?

Dave - I could not agree more and I think you are so right with regard to awareness growing and the demand for the best technology. It will become impossible to compete without leading edge technology.

My experience with the SMART electric bike

Hi DHS - Out testing does not support that belts last longer then chains, but they do have the benefit of not needing to be lubricated. One of the reasons they are not use more widely on ebikes is that they only work with IGH (internally geared hubs like the Smart has built into the BionX motor)...

    Another Neo Carbon Lover

Hey Justin - regarding battery pack capacity, remember that the size of the fuel tank is measured by multiplying Voltage x Ah to give you total capacity in Watt Hours. For example; 36V 10Ah = 360Wh while 48V 8.7Ah (like on your IZIP E3 Dash) = 417Wh. Also, energy is delivered more efficiently at...

Are Americans savvy enough to discern the difference between high-tech and low-tech electric bikes?

We have finally gotten to a place in time where the average selling price in North America are on par with electric bicycles sold on European market at an average of approximately $2500 retail. What is interesting however is that many bikes are very low-technology products, even some sold at...
