2020 : Our Rides in Words, Photos & Videos

    Chain vs belt. Dad

I think 30k miles is basically the life of the bike. By the time that much mileage is on the bike, it's probably old and decrepit and need replacement anyway (unless it's titanium which last virtually forever).

    Safety with E Bikes

I have 2 ebikes, one with throttle and the other without. Right now, I prefer the non-throttle Fuji which is lighter and responsive but when my knee was flaring up and swollen, the Rad Rover was a great bike because I didn't have to worry about starting torque from a standstill which saved my knee.

Finally Found and Ebike I Want, But There Are None Available

I've only ridden the Treadwell Neo which is the barebones version without a front rack. Glorious bike! Nice and light, nimble, very comfortable (saddle is great and the suspension seatpost worked). It is only rated for 250 watts but the light weight makes it feel very lively and fast. Doesn't...

Brake light thread 999 need motion detection

Yes. Several available. Most have some kind of rudimentary accelerometer that sense the bike slowing down and turns on a solid bright brake light. Price usually around $40+. I thought I saw Garmin branded rear lights with brake light fixture and GPS functionality but the >$100 price tag and...

Finally Found and Ebike I Want, But There Are None Available

On the western side of NJ, I saw a Cannondale Treadwell Neo at Hart's Cyclery in Pennington, NJ. Brielle Cyclery had them too (Jersey Shore location). That was where I was able to ride one. I'd recommend buying from Hart's but then again, Ross is my friend.

What Do You Do During The Lockdown?

A bad storm toppled a tree which brought down powerlines which started a fire. We heard a bang so I hopped on the bike to find out what had happened. Usually it’s s a vehicular accident were a post gets knocked down. But I found the smoldering fire on the road side. The first responders had just...

What Do You Do During The Lockdown?

A nearby forest fire during the early summer which eventually burned about a 100 acres. I was on my Rad Rover to track where the smoke in the neighborhood was coming from. A fire truck is seen here responding to the fire.

What Do You Do During The Lockdown?

Someone else put down the mulch to our dismay. It introduced a bunch of weeds.

What Do You Do During The Lockdown?

Guerilla gardening at the neighborhood sign. Fixed the sign which was broken in half. Planted flower bulbs. Cut the grass around it occasionally.

    Chain vs belt. Dad

I thought 30k miles was the service life of a Gates belt. I've ridden the belt drive Electra, wasn't too enthusiastic about that bike but not because of the belt drive. One of the most memorable bike test rides I've had was on a BMC Alpenchallenge with Gates belt drive and Shimano 8-speed Alfine...

Which Do You Prefer Cadence or Torque Sensor?

I know that. Just saying that with a more powerful motor on a cadence sensor, I get a more pronounced on/off response even from PAS 1 than on a low powered one. The low powered cadence bike then tends to mimic the feel of a torque sensor bike in that the power doesn’t feed in abruptly.

Which Do You Prefer Cadence or Torque Sensor?

On the Fuji eNevada, there seems to be a greatly diminished sense of hitting the wall once I get it up past 20mph. You hardly perceive that it's all you when you get up to 23-24mph. The Rad Rover lets you know that it's cutting off power as soon as you hit 20 mph. So both are cadence sensing...

Which Do You Prefer Cadence or Torque Sensor?

My ebike experience is limited to a Bulls speed pedelec hybrid mid-drive, Trek hybrid and Electra beach cruiser mid drive (all torque sensing) and Rad Rover, Fuji eNevada, Cannondale Treadwell Neo (cadence sensing). Not all are created equal. The Bulls is as close to ideal as possible if you...

My kung fu sifu taught us to adapt to the characteristics of different weapons, be ambidextrous with weapons and be able to use anything as a weapon. Since weapons are extensions of our arms, there are underlying empty hand skills within movements. My tai chi teacher has a deceptive way of using...

    Infinitely solar powered ebike...

Technically my ebikes are solar powered since I have solar panels and the bikes charge during the day.
