Ultra FS -- 400 mile update!

@roshan Are you a representative of Biktrix? I have some questions: The website states that a 48v/20Ah battery gives a 60+ mile range... is this throttle-only? At what speed? This measurement is inconsistent with my observations of ebikes generally. A 1kWh battery should give you twice this...

    2018 Evo Big Bud Pro

Regarding threaded front axle, I'm surprised that I don't see any sort of dropout reinforcement on the fork. There's a hub there, yet it looks as an ordinary QR fork. This is weird. I wouldn't replace 2x8 with 1x11, I would instead replace it with 1x8 with a wide range cassette (SRAM EX1 or the...

    Mid drive torque sensor

Interesting you'd mention this, I have same issue with people not getting it. You know what the solution is? A Yamaha motor. Bosch is terrible at starting up in high gear, but Yamaha's instant engagement seems to have solved the problem of spin-up.

DIY Type Ebike Battery, 3 year test

This is consistent with li-ion batteries generally, i.e., 1000 charges takes you to 80% capacity.

    What's your dream ebike?

For me, Riese & Muller solved the dual sus+rack problem, their Delite model being perhaps the best example. What people don't realize is how much better the R&M rear swingarm is at absorbing bumps compared to the bridge-based suspension like the Moustache below. The bridge suspension is slow to...

    Yamaha ebikes

Yep. I am trying once again. Now that I own both Bosch and Yamaha ebikes, I'm amazed at how much better (subjectively, of course) Yamaha is.

    What's your dream ebike?

Both mineral oil and dot fluid are nasty and terrible for the environment. Also I don't know how to dispose of it properly other than flushing is slowly down the toilet. Dot fluid is less likely to freeze in winter, but in my experience at −20°C mineral oil works just fine... I get failures in...

    Enviolo NuVinci CVP Hub Overview

Thanks. It talks of 'thru axle adapters', I'm guessing it's the same story as Rohloff, basically using screws to hold the hub in place. I would much rather prefer a proper thru axle solution. I prepaid for a Kindernay hub but it still doesn't seem to be out yet.

    Enviolo NuVinci CVP Hub Overview

I think the biggest question to answer is efficiency loss. IIRC from previous performance comparisons that people did, NuVinci did significantly worse compared to Rohloff. The numbers that come to mind are 5% loss for Rohloff vs about 9-10% loss for NuVinci. I wonder if this number has changed...

    What's your dream ebike?

Just curious, I'm guessing most people here own ebikes they're happy with, so my question is, what's your ideal?

    Delite GX Rohloff chain tension

When I mentioned the pivot, I meant Haibike's way of tensioning dual-suspension bikes, i.e.: I don't know if it's even compatible with R&M Delite. There's no dedicated point on the pivot arm where to attach it. As far as the Slider, I think the correct term is removable dropout, I don't know...

    Delite GX Rohloff chain tension

By the way, speaking of the pivot, did you know that the Delite frame has a threaded hole where the pivot would go? Surprising but true. Only issue it's a rather small hole so I'm not sure how well it would hold a pulley wheel.

    Jones H-Loop shamelessly copied

Pretty sure the H-loop is a patented design, so imagine my surprise when I see this: Yep, China. Nothing's sacred. They even improve on the design, notice the bosses on the far side. And yeah, some of you might say "there's tons of H-loop copies on Alibaba" — true, but they are all Ti. This...

    Noisy Bosch CX drive unit

IGHs such as Rohloff are a lot noisier in lower gears; that's normal. But where is the noise coming from, the motor?

Known Issues & Problems with Bosch Products + Help, Solutions & Fixes

Just in case anyone here is getting Error 530, I've been getting it persistently for a few weeks, so the advice is to remove the batteries and replace them. So I removed both batteries and one of them had lots of dried dirt/dust right inside the contacts. Just blowing inside (or vacuming, I...

    Folding Fat tire frame?

Many custom frame builders will place connectors that could split the frame in two. It's not the same as a bike folding in half, and it's definitely not cheap, but possible. Here's a photo:
