My VEB Cafe thread. (1st Year Recap: post #83)

Yeah, they mentioned there was bluetooth (I assume it is in the new controller) -- I've written to them to ask if there's a way to lower the power output on Level 1; should hear back in a few days -- but I suspect/fear that they won't want to do it "remotely" (such as tell me how to use the LCD...

My VEB Cafe thread. (1st Year Recap: post #83)

Another update and a surprise… Finally, after 25 days without a bike ride, I took the Café out for a 24 mile trek Saturday; first time since the new bottom bracket and new controller was just recently installed. The guys at VEB had told me that the new controller had revised programming in it...

    Down with spandex!

I can and do appreciate a humorous rant, and I certainly can relate to the frustration of dealing with rude cyclists we encounter (of any variety) every day. But to suggest it is "funny" to entertain physical assault or harm as a response to another biker's offensive behavior, and post that on a...

    40k commute, reliability and rain

I dunno @Ebiker01 -- I don't personally believe "the ebike" is explicitly more dangerous than a pedal bike, out in the rain -- it still comes down to the rider's proactive, defensive riding and control, and adjusting their riding behavior to suit the conditions... ie, road conditions should...

    Mobile Phone Earphone Troubles

When you say you hear the phone’s vibrations do you mean any vibration caused by bike riding, or, vibrations the phone is designed to create as an alert of an incoming call or text message? (No idea on your second question.) I avoid it all, I reckon, by using a Bluetooth speaker mounted on my...

    40k commute, reliability and rain

Welcome aboard and good luck! Sure some will chime in; I have no experience with those models to offer an opinion.

    Down with spandex!

Please tell me the threats of assault you all are proposing is meant to be some variant of twisted forum humor.

    Traveling with your ebike overnight?

@Brian7588 are you asking about say, bike-camping? Bike left on a car-mounted rack? Biking to a hotel-stay overnight?

    Life of torque-sensing bottom bracket?

Hi @Ravi Kempaiah -- yes, the BB has a wire that passes from the spindle/body through a small hole in the frame in order to connect with the wiring system of the bike. (Both the original BB's, and the new Thun have this, since the sensor must communicate to the controller to indicate when I'm...

My VEB Cafe thread. (1st Year Recap: post #83)

Thanks, @drewberz! Yes, VEB has done right by me all along. And I didn't really end up with a scar anywhere from the fall in December -- but I do still have a small patch of discoloration on my leg, where the impact/swelling was. I'll count that as a badge ;)

My VEB Cafe thread. (1st Year Recap: post #83)

Yes, N+1... I figured I'd sit contentedly at "1 bike" and not feel the pull of N+1 for a long time... now I feel slightly ahead of the game. (Though, suspension bikes and carbon always call to me in the shops, so -- who knows.... ;) Does that Grin write-up refer to every Thun BB? (It starts...

My VEB Cafe thread. (1st Year Recap: post #83)

Update regarding the assist cutting in and out in my prior post. V.E.B. has sent a new torque-sensor BB and new controller, under warranty. The new BB is a different make/model (Thun X-cell RT2.) Not sure of the make of the original BB... "TDCM" perhaps, if that is even a brand name and not...

    Life of torque-sensing bottom bracket?

Further update. The TDCM BB that was installed in April began (apparently) acting up... after just 900 miles on it, the assist started intermittently cutting in and out, at any assist level. My worry (only speculation!) is that the LBS may not have installed it "perfectly" -- they don't sell...

    Water Bottle

If no satisfactory mounting solutions exist for your Haibike, what about regularly wearing a biking jersey or jacket with a back-pocket to stow the bottle there?

    Police Harassment

I think the video post above from @Deacon Blues could be the answer -- just get those clever folks to work up a full-body airbag product, and we all wear that at all times! ;) (Though they'd need to make a version that didn't slowly deflate, for those folks who fall off boats or bridges...)

    Police Harassment

The article Bruce shared seemed a pretty darned appropriate example to demonstrate his point of how Marci’s mildly castigating (my opinion of it) response to the OP isn’t in fact universal. What’s to try again?
