Welcome aboard, Bert! Congratulations! If you search the forum threads here for "mirror" -- you'll find abundant commentary on many styles and choices available. Enjoy the ride!

Show us pictures of where you ride your ebikes!

A break in the rain was enough to get me out to close my exercise rings ... 8 miles from home to the southern tip of Old Town Alexandria where the soaring (relatively) new Woodrow Wilson Bridge carries I-495 across the Potomac River to Maryland. Chose the vintage Bianchi rather than the ebike...

How long have you been riding a bicycle?

I chose to answer "More than 1, less than 5 years" rather than "40 to 50" which would technically cover the timespan between my first-ever bike ride, and today... I vaguely recall having a bike for some part of my childhood -- I remember a banana seat, and maybe handlebar tassels, and spoke...

Riding No Handed Over 50 or 60

Yes here (51) but not for long stretches; generally only when I have some empty, straight pavement ahead that is also in good condition and ideally mostly flat. Then I may go hands-free for 10-30 seconds (usually coasting or very minor pedaling) to stretch out my shoulders a bit.

Need Advice - Class 1 or Class 3?

...Also ask yourself if you wish/need/want to routinely ride, assisted, in the mid-to-upper 20's mph on a regular basis? (ie, it may be one thing if you do most of your biking in traffic roadways, and so need the upper assisted speeds... quite another if your rides mostly consist of leisurely...

2020 : Our Rides in Words, Photos & Videos

Didn't get to ride over it (walked it, if I recall) but it was a beauty! Fort Bragg, California, if memory serves:

What Do You Do During The Lockdown?

No official lockdown / shelter in place orders here (Northern Virginia) yet... The County has closed all parks & athletic courts; but trails are only "closed to groups" - so I take that to mean I can still ride them solo (including when they pass through a now-closed park) or with my sig-o. Or...

2020 : Our Rides in Words, Photos & Videos

Dear lord, I nearly choked as I spit out my tea seeing this post!! I grew up in Bluemont -- my earliest of all childhood memories are from my family's time here -- 1973-1976 -- AND WE OWNED THAT WHITE HOUSE shown in distance, in the picture, with the two chimneys! Only it was red when we...

2020 : Our Rides in Words, Photos & Videos

From my last office commute this past week, before our company mandated everyone telework until further notice. Still riding in the afternoon however! First pic; sunrise over Four Mile Run stream (that empties into Potomac). Second pic; weeping style cherry tree on the DC bank of the Potomac...

My VEB Cafe thread. (1st Year Recap: post #83)

A belated update to my Cafe thread (I missed posting here for a year-end 2019 recap, and also missed posting here last week, to celebrate my 2-year-anniversary of purchasing the ebike, March 2)... After my birthday post (above) -- I managed to ride another 841 miles to close out 2019... Not too...

    What does Bluetooth do?

No Yamaha here, but I'll chime in that my (rear hub motor) bike's current controller (sent by the manufacturer last year to replace the original which died) can be configured & tuned via Bluetooth connectivity through a dedicated developers app. (The old controller, it seems, didn't have...

Will 20$/ barrel oil, 1$ /gallon stop people from buying an ebike ?

I didn't purchase my ebike for gasoline savings, 2 years ago... (Though I hoped when I bought it, I would end up commuting to work on it eventually -- which I have, 222 times since then -- but that wasn't one of the top "purchase reasons" for me.) I've been driving a hybrid car for 10 years...

When was the last time you rode an acoustic bike?

To the OP's question, around 16 months into my ebike ownership and riding (which was the first bike riding for me in ~25 years), I rediscovered that I still owned my original pedal bike, an early-90's Bianchi 21-speed. That bike defeated me back in the day, and I maybe rode it 10 times total...

    Hi all I'm Alan

How many of you park inside the home?

Indoors / in my condo unit. I have a floor-standing wall-rack now, for 2 bikes; the Bianchi pedal bike hangs by its top tube resting on the 2 upper rack arms (bike rests parallel to wall) and the ebike parks directly on the tile floor underneath the Bianchi. This is in a "breakfast nook" area...

    Chain lube?

@steve mercier -- do you reapply every 4-6 riding hours? Or can you go further between lubes?

How do you use e-power on your e-bike?

Class 3 rear hub, no throttle. Five levels of assist (1 minimum, 5 maximum, 0 = off.) When I got the bike nearly 2 years ago now, I was out of shape & overweight and hadn't been on a bike in 25 years. I used a lot of Level 3, 4, 2 in that order of frequency. Level 5 is great for a quick...

    Chain lube?

In a word, no; there is no consensus I've ever found. ;) Seriously, there are many threads posted here over the years, offering many different recommendations, "swear by this" testimonials, personal experiences both good & bad, etc. Just like "What's the best ebike out there?" - there is no...

25km/h? 32? 45? 60? What speed do you *actually* want on your e-bike?

Rear hub, class III here with five levels of assist. In the first few months of riding, after 25 years off a bike, I generally rode around in level 3 a lot. As I built stamina and strength, I gradually lowered my use of assist, and now ride almost entirely in level 1 and sometimes level 0...
