    Police Harassment

@ramg1967 just curious if any bike share firms have set up in Ontario, and if so, do they rent ebikes in their fleets?

    E Bikes for Heavy People

I started at 303 on my VEB Cafe, after confirming with them that my weight (plus carrying a commuting bag of stuff) wouldn't pose a problem. They assured me the bike would be fine. Now, I've lost 60 pounds since then, which is terrific -- but while I was still heavier in the first 3 months, the...

Happy Summer 2019 from Northern Virginia!

Welcome aboard (ebikes, and the forum.) S. Arlington here - howdy, neighbor!

My VEB Cafe thread. (1st Year Recap: post #83)

Mission accomplished! Today’s 25mi ride resulted in besting my prior record for a month’s total miles (600.2, set last July in my first summer biking) by 10 miles! (Today was mostly manual effort as I seem to have crimped a wire from the torque sensor BB and my assist now pulses in for a...

Is it important to you that your ebike doesn’t look like an ebike?

I like the bit-of-old-school look my bike has, vs some of the more assertive/angular ebike designs out there. Of course, my battery case is no more stealthy than any of the big down-tube mounted hoagies... (Though someone did once ask me if it was a lunch box or carry-case!) I constantly see...

District of Columbia proposes revising ebike and escooter laws

Grrr... not happy about that Class 3 ridiculousness.

Serious bike on bike crash. Head on.

It will probably diverge the thread, but two objects of same mass, colliding with each other head-on while traveling at the same speed towards each other, does not "double the energy of the collision" in that way, as intuitive as it feels to think it would work like that. Two ideal cyclists...

Serious bike on bike crash. Head on.

I felt a pang of relief to read there WASN'T an ebike involved... just an old-fashioned collision of pedal-bikes, where the high speed of (at least one rider) was human-powered. I don't mean at all for that to sound crass; I'm certainly glad both parties live, and can't imagine the pain and...

My VEB Cafe thread. (1st Year Recap: post #83)

I probably should wait until Sunday to post... but... today's commute to work triggered two "milestones": 1. June 2019 now has 24 days of biking -- my personal highest count of any month so far. (In my tracking, a "day of biking" is a day with more than 2 miles ridden.) 2. June 2019 total...

    New E-Biker in San Diego

Welcome aboard, @eaglemike! So glad to hear you've come out the other side of that triple-hit! I think you'll love ebiking...! It has been transformative for me, certainly! At 49-1/2, I got my ebike (no biking prior, for 25+ years). I was 303 pounds, and far too sedentary for far too...

Looking for Opinions on Bikes (and potentially some other options)

PS - nowadays I frequently ride the VEB Cafe (direct drive gearless hub) in Level 0 (no assist) when I’m aiming for more of a workout impact, and have even ridden it without the battery in place two or three times. Note however the VEB doesn’t have regenerative braking.

Looking for Opinions on Bikes (and potentially some other options)

For another test ride, can you pop down to Santa Clara and visit Vintage Electric Bikes? (Though for all I know, there may be shops that carry them in S.F., being so close by.). I live in Virginia, and their service and support has been exceptional, despite being so far from me. They have two...

Another update... today’s ride tipped me over the 6,000 mile mark (9,656km), cumulative biked miles, since Mar. 2, 2018. (5,150 of that is on the current VEB Cafe frame; 850 came from the first Cafe.) In other updates, I had to put new tires on this summer; Schwalbe Fat Franks are what come...

First 1,000 miles overview - Vintage Electric Bike's Cafe

Yeah, opening up the bike to level 5 is insane. I haven’t really found a use case for it. Nor a riding place (pavement in good repair, no other traffic; where I could just enjoy going fast for speed’s sake!) where I’d feel comfortable using Level 5 for prolonged stretches! Which means in...

First 1,000 miles overview - Vintage Electric Bike's Cafe

Hi @konea420; I’ve got another thread here which may help, sort of a diary with the bike at key milestones. My Cafe ebike thread I’ve been very happy with the bike and with VEB. Today I’ll pass the 6,000 mile cumulative mark. I haven’t ridden any other ebikes during this time, so I can’t...
