Are mid drives just naturally less zippy than hub motors?

In the video he using both wheels powered at once. He even shows you can disable 2wd and just use RWD. Is this a newer design since that interview? Because in the video both wheels are moving at the same time. The front wheel is moving and the rear wheel is moving ,they're both being powered at...

Are mid drives just naturally less zippy than hub motors?

Both would be good with the right tires. I think a dual hub motor (one motor in the front wheel and one motor in the rear) with the right tires would excel in the snow over a comparable mid-drive. But there are tons of videos on youtube of both bike styles excelling at snow. You've got to think...

Are mid drives just naturally less zippy than hub motors?

My bike has a 750 watt bafang BBS02 it should be beat by a 1000 watt geared hub bike. But I would still bet $5 on winning. Those mac geared hubs are awesome. I may just do the hummingbird with one instead of a mid-drive. I think they can do a sustained 1700 watts and be pretty stable. These...

Are mid drives just naturally less zippy than hub motors?

I was responding to 'your' comment. Are you Justin Elmore? Or are you speaking in 3rd person? I could argue that Justin is biased towards because that's all he sells are hub motors based on the link "you" provided. His hub motors are MASSIVE and they need to be compete with mid-drives. I've...

Are mid drives just naturally less zippy than hub motors?

Bosch have some of the best designed motors in the industry they absolutely some of the most efficient motors in the industry. I'd take an engineers statement over a internet forum commenter whom is emotionally attached to his rear hub drive. That article you commented on that I posted has many...

    Ebikes are too heavy.

This is so true. Nice ebike! After my Mother went through 2 ebikes that weighed just under 80lbs. I was on a mission to create a light fast ebike. Mine weighed in at about 40lbs , full carbon frame (SAVA carbon folding bike) , with some heavy components I could shave a few more pounds if I got...

Are mid drives just naturally less zippy than hub motors?

On a mid-drive bike , gears absolutely matter. Whether it's one gear or 12 gears , the way a mid-drive works is propelling the bike through the gears. Without a chain and gears a mid-drive simply does not work to propel the bike forward. We're not talking about cars. I'm simply telling you how...

Are mid drives just naturally less zippy than hub motors?

Here's a quote from Stromers website "The power is transmitted directly to the hub on the rear-wheel motor and accelerates without detours over crank, sprockets and chain." Pretty much what I've been saying over and over in this thread concerning the functionality of rear hub motors. A 750 watt...

Are mid drives just naturally less zippy than hub motors?

You'd have to create a controller to trick the motor into sensing a certain amount of torque at certain intervals. But this creation does not exist because you don't need it. Unless perhaps your were to build a bike for someone without legs , then perhaps it would be a necessary creation. I was...

yes I do that all the time , just leave in it one gear it zips around

Are mid drives just naturally less zippy than hub motors?

Yes the hub motor adds more assistance to the wheel itself but it's not through the gears or drive-train like a mid-drive. A rear hub motor can't use the gears , those gears are only powered by YOU , the assistance felt is not through the gears but the motor in the rear wheel propelling you...

Are mid drives just naturally less zippy than hub motors?

The typical hub motor there is only one gear. Even if there are gears visible on the rear wheel, these visible gears solely affect the power provided by your pedaling – the power delivered via the chain. The rear hub motor itself does not benefit from these gears.

Are mid drives just naturally less zippy than hub motors?

Yes even though you have 9 speeds , almost all hub motors only allow a single gear ratio. The single largest advantage that mid-motors have over hub motors is their gear ratio. They allow the rider to power the rear wheel via the same chain and gear set as the pedals, which means that a low...

Are mid drives just naturally less zippy than hub motors?

This was how it was when I sold it recently I put a Luna battery on the frame (see picture) that helped with front wheelies. Although it will still wheelie if you hit full throttle at a stand still. The bike was still fast. Top speed of 36mph with me on it weighing about 220lbs.

My apologies the bikes weighs about 33lbs total which is about 14kg , I was thinking kg and not lbs I'm using a 6AH saddle bag battery under seat which only weighs 3lbs The donor bike is a SAVA carbon fiber at 22lbs , stock OEM , all gears , brakes everything the bbso2 weighs about 9.5lbs the...
