    Moving Away From Heavy E-Bikes

Super light and fast has always been my go to build style. After loading in my Mother's 80lb ebike into her SUV the 10th time. I soon began my ebike journey myself looking for a lightweight fun ebike that ideally would be fold-able , fast , climb hills in my mountainous region with ease. My new...

NYC PSA E-bike Battery Fires 11/11/22 NBC News

After the Florida hurricane this year , all of these flooded (electric) cars will hit the market are ticking time bombs exposed to salt water. They will likely be dried out and sold on the wholesale market. Buyer Beware I wonder what the regulations are to reselling a flood exposed electrical car?

Better to downshift for stops (shifter wear & tear) or not (chain strain)?

Electrical power , (whether high or low) goes towards turning the mid-drive motor and producing forward momentum. If there is resistance– which keeps the motor from free-spinning – then instead of forward rotation, the electrical energy is converted to heat. If you start from a stop even with...

Better to downshift for stops (shifter wear & tear) or not (chain strain)?

If it's a rear hub motor and you throttle only the chain is not even involved in the bicycles movement. In fact you could remove the chain entirely from a rear hub motor and still have full power and throttle assist no chain is necessary. You could essentially remove the chain , the pedals ...

Better to downshift for stops (shifter wear & tear) or not (chain strain)?

If you don't shift down and start off in lower gears from a standstill your causing excess strain on the motor. Let alone the shifter. The cassette , the chain are what I considered wear and tear items. Mainly the chain and cassette. The motor is not a wear and tear item like tires , brake pads...

Better to downshift for stops (shifter wear & tear) or not (chain strain)?

I watched a well known ebike reviewer start from a dead stop in 7th gear on a mid drive. Then once they got going shifted down to lower gears. Made my eyes twitch a little.

Show us pictures of where you ride your ebikes!

KIND of looks like swiss alps? Not as pointy to be toblerone but it does look like it.

Fat man bike; long time rider, but not ebikes

The 52 teeth is fine for 20inch tires/rims on the bbs02 . Over 600 miles on my bike when I sold it without issue. I lived in an area where flat roads were rare. Pretty much the only bike I'd consider a 52T is the 20 inch tire. THE MAJOR thing with ANY mid-drive is DO NOT CLIMB HILLS on the...

    The Experience of a Bicycle

I will say as a side note irregardless of gender , the internet forums (which for me started in the mid 90s) , this phenomenon of hiding behind some PC somewhere in the world suddenly gave people freedom to act like utter A$$holes with little regard for someone else's feelings. Normally face to...

NYC PSA E-bike Battery Fires 11/11/22 NBC News

I've seen batteries explode right on the bike. No wood stove, battery bag or special storage shed would have prevented that fire. The biggest issue is buying off brand aliexpress generic battery ebikes from China for $200 and flooding the market with dangerous goods. I see so many fires with...

    The Experience of a Bicycle

I stay far away from media social engineering. Tell-a-vision <--- They're telling you their vision. TV Programming <--- like a PC you're being "programmed" If you're still arguing left and right you're in the 'programming mind-set'. The 2004 Presidential nominees should have woke most up...

It's a pretty straight forward build to add it to your bike. Maybe a local bike guy around you can do it.

    The Experience of a Bicycle

Oh yes men of culture we meet again. I have an old 1969 classical nylon string and an electric cheapo custom guitar with a super wide neck. I play guitar , bass and drums. Guitar is my fav though. I play exclusively without a pick now. Master of none though.

    The Experience of a Bicycle

I start twitching when I see this , flashback to Nam slaying the leafies by the million. But I guarantee and 80volt back pack battery powered blower can knock that out too.

    The Experience of a Bicycle

Yes they do and noisy to boot. I use a battery powered one which has zero emissions and I have a mulcher for my mower which just grinds up the leaves as I mow. Total life changer. I used to rake leaves by the pallet load in florida with all the oak trees. NEVER AGAIN !
