New Build Considerations - Input Desired

What about a Trek 8.3 Dual Sport as a conversion option for non-winter riding? Doesn't look like anyone has done a conversion on one yet here in the community.

New Build Considerations - Input Desired

So I have one more (possibly silly) question if anyone is willing to chime in: Could I build around a single speed bike? I'm thinking it would be nice to buy a cheaper single speed bike and one year down the road when I have additional funds put in a Rohloff. Until that point could I get by...

New Build Considerations - Input Desired

One kind of bike that I like the idea of getting is the Diamondback Haanjo Comp - it seems like with some thick, voluminous tires it would be able to smooth out bumps enough and would still be pretty light and quick. This commuting bike blogger uses it as his bad weather bike. Here's a video...

New Build Considerations - Input Desired

David, I just checked out GMS's build thread and it's a nice, clean set up. The Fargo is very nice but pricey - I'd like to do a cheaper first build. Maybe it will be simpler to have a dedicated snowy season commuter and just swap the batteries between the two setups. Well, enough thinking...

New Build Considerations - Input Desired

Thanks for the input - so you're both in agreement that the output of the BBSHD is not needed and that the BBS02 would do all that I want? I'm thinking I'd like to maintain 25 mph on my commute on the flat parts to make it relatively quick - would the BBS02 be up to that task? One other...

New Build Considerations - Input Desired

So I've been mulling over the idea of putting together a Bafang based build that could be an all-season, durable commuter that could work for both summer and winter. My commute is 21 miles one way but generally flat (really just one decent hill) and a mixture of pavement and hard packed trail...

Where to buy a Kahlkoff ebike

Cool, thanks for the response. The model I was looking at was the Agattu Premium Impulse 8 for doing some long range (45 mi r/t) commuting. Is that one that you think you may have? I went to college in Madison so it would be a nice trip to make and visit the city again :)

Where to buy a Kahlkoff ebike

Any more development on places to test ride or buy Kalkhoff bikes in the States? I live in Minnesota so San Francisco and NYC are not convenient in the slightest!

    Considering Building My Own E-Bike

Hey there, I'm considering the idea of doing my own e-bike build and have been looking around at various options that would be cheaper than buying one off the shelf. Ideally I'd have a $2,000 budget but still get plenty of power and range as well as utility for that dollar amount. I've...

Hey there Bike_On, I'm considering the idea of doing my own e-bike build; I'd like to know a little bit about your bike building experience and your thought process on why you went from one bike to the next and why you ended up with your most recent build being a light road bike build. Curious...

E-Motobecane Finished Product Thoughts after 125 miles

For shorter rides, pleasure rides and exercise rides I already have a lightweight road bike that I really like, so my e-bike build would be more focused on long distance utility than anything else. I'm thinking that 20Ah might be a happy medium, although mounting that to the downtube will be a...

E-Motobecane Finished Product Thoughts after 125 miles

Also, I weigh 175 lbs, so isn't having a 15 lbs battery kind of the same impact as if I weighed 190 lbs? The weight doesn't seem like it would be that big of a deal if you're just riding on pavement, but maybe I'm mistaken.

E-Motobecane Finished Product Thoughts after 125 miles

My distance would be 45 miles round trip for my commute with strong winds and a couple hills, with some of that being in winter conditions if I'm brave enough to do that in Minnesota. It would be nice to not have to worry about charging at work if possible, but it wouldn't be too big of an...

E-Motobecane Finished Product Thoughts after 125 miles

I see that seller has a 36V 25AH battery up for sale; do you think that would be excessive? I was thinking I'd mount it on a rack in the back and use panniers for storage on the sides if I went with a battery that large.

E-Motobecane Finished Product Thoughts after 125 miles

Thank you for your replies Court J! Are you still using the Kenda Happy Medium tires for your rides? I'm curious how efficient those are compared to road tires - they seem like they'd do pretty well. Also, what is it with Court's and E-Bikes? I had never met anyone with that name before and...

Also, if you could please be specific about which sites you used to buy your motor and battery that would be helpful as well. I know you said "Bafang" for the motor, but did you use eBay or another 3rd party site? And which version did you use? Same for the battery since there seem to be many...

E-Motobecane Finished Product Thoughts after 125 miles

Hi FlyMeAway, I've been following your threads with interest for the last few weeks and am considering the possibility of trying to replicate your E-Motobecane build, but am concerned about having the right tools and know-how as I consider myself a mechanical NEWB. Would you mind writing...
