    "forged" cranks, what a crock?

Alloy cranks are definitely superior to steel. Whether it is forged or cast, who wants to carry all that extra weight around? It is just another way manufacturers cut costs.

Odd..Mike's Bikes had orders cancelled by Specialized ???

While ebikes are a fast growing market, ebikes aren't taking over regular bikes just yet in the US. 15-20 million bicycles are sold in the US each year, while just 600,000 ebikes sold here last year. There are many non-electric bicycles that cost north of $1000 and some high end road and...

Can a conventional mountain handle conversion kits

Well, a mid-drive motor will wear out the chains, chainring, and rear cassette faster than just leg power for sure. That is a compromise many people are willing to make if they need the help of a motor to get over the hills they ride. Thousands of people have installed Bafang kits on...

possible to charge bike battery with large external battery pack? while riding?

Yeah, but how much would hauling that thing around on a trailer suck the fun out of your bike ride? The specs say that it weighs 40lbs. A second 10-15lb battery would double your range and you could carry it in a pannier. I guess if you already have the trailer, you could try it.

Vado SL 5.0 -- reasonable range on hills? (Mt. Diablo, CA)

I understand that you are not interested in the BBS02, but I was using it as another data point indicating the real world results you are getting on your Vado SL 5.0 are about right for that climb. I think that the range extender is your best option.

Vado SL 5.0 -- reasonable range on hills? (Mt. Diablo, CA)

You, sir, are a masochist. You could try the Grin Motor Simulator. It doesn't have your particular motor, but with the BBS02 it shows battery consumption of 53.4 Wh/m with a grade of 11%, a 42t chainring, and a 34t rear cog. The range is exactly 12 miles for a 48V 14Ah battery...

Choosing an E-Bike Class 1 versus Class 3?

All politics are local to quote Tip O'Neill. New York City has confiscated ebikes in the past, although they are getting more friendly to them. I don't think that police departments in most rural areas would want to deal with that. I can't see this being anything but a citation if it is...

Suggestions for an optional seat (saddle) for a CrossCurrent S2 ebike

Brooks leather saddles aren't for everyone, but I find the Brooks B67 is very comfortable for me.

possible to charge bike battery with large external battery pack? while riding?

Ah! The Jackery Exlorer has an inverter built into it. Yeah, It would probably work with a 2A charger, but I wouldn't carry that thing on my bike.

possible to charge bike battery with large external battery pack? while riding?

The AC charger for your battery contains a transformer to reduce the voltage from your outlet to the charging voltage and also circuitry to convert the AC (alternating current) to DC (direct current).

possible to charge bike battery with large external battery pack? while riding?

I am not sure what you are saying. The output voltage of a 48V charger should be around 58.8V DC and the SOC of the fully charged battery will be 54.6V. The charger will regulate current. The maximum charging current will depend on the C rate of your particular battery, but a slower charging...

possible to charge bike battery with large external battery pack? while riding?

Sort of. You can't charge a 48V battery with a 14V battery. It is possible to connect two batteries of the same voltage in parallel. You have to make sure they have the same voltage level (SOC) when you connect them together otherwise there could be a current rush between the batteries as they...

Am I on the right path?

I don't want to sound too paranoid. Battery fires aren't that common, but they do happen and it is a chemical fire that is hard to put out. There is at least one person on this forum and another on a different forum I am on that have had their homes burn down due to a battery fire. Ebike...

Am I on the right path?

You can easily get 25 miles from a smaller battery if you are riding at 15-20 mph instead of 25 mph and use a lower assist level. @PedalUma uses small batteries that are the size of a water bottle on his builds and takes them on longer rides. It just depends on how you want to use the bike...

Am I on the right path?

While you aren't spending much on the bike and motor kit, I recommend that you budget for a better quality battery using name brand cells from a reputable seller to reduce the risk of fire. Some reputable sellers are Luna, EM3EV, and Grin. Also, you can convert the front brake to disk by...

    Apple Watch watchOS 15

Since everyone's body is different and some people are more efficient than others when it comes to work and burning calories, these formulas are only rough guidelines based on body weight. I have a friend that eats like a horse and never gains weight and never exercises. I put on weight fast if...

Upgrade my RIZE RX - 1000 Watt mid drive

Instead of selling bikes and buying a new one, the most accepted formula for bike ownership is n+1, where n equals the number of bikes you have now. If the Rize RX is your commuter bike, perhaps you need something like a Vado SL to ride on the weekends or a mountain bike like the Hydra for the...

Can someone tell me what adjusting these display advance settings do

PWM is a method of giving you proportional control over the motor speed. I would guess that setting controls the sensitivity of the throttle.

Question for my fellow road riders.

Passing you might mean crossing over the double yellow line. Some people are reluctant to do that even if there is no oncoming traffic, but most people will to get around obstacles in the road. Sometimes I will just stop my bike and force them to pass if it is annoying me.

    Which BMS

Yes, but if you find that BMS are you going to build the battery yourself? What is the point in looking for a different BMS than the seller will install and support?
