Why Electric Bikes Shouldn't Be Allowed on Mountain Biking Trails?

Potential problems: Bikes going too fast, bikes not staying on the trail, overpowered bikes, noisy motors, mechanical failure stranding cyclists far from the trailhead, antithesis of the back-to-nature raw human powered experience, making the trails too crowded, more ecological impact...

Newbie looking for bike advise for road trip

I can't recommend a specific bike, but would highly recommend purchasing a bike that will blend into the local scene. The last thing you want when traveling out of the country is anything that makes you a target (for thieves, police, etc.). Of course you may already be familiar with the...

Homemade Day 6 Electric Bike 48 Volts 1,000 Watts

Thanks George, for the link. Very interesting looking bike, though from their videos it appears that everyone has his/her arms outstretched pretty far. Makes me wonder if that position would be tiring after a while. This is definitely catching my eye for my daughter with the spinal fusion...

Homemade Day 6 Electric Bike 48 Volts 1,000 Watts

Welcome! Looks like a comfortable bike :) Please do be careful though. 30mph crashes can't feel good.

    High wattage ebikes

J.R. that is some awesome footage! Thank you very much for posting it. The motor was working hard, but sounded consistant anyway. Pretty impressive that a 250w system could go up those switchbacks! (Maybe you have Popeye legs?). Didn't hear you panting at all... Awesome about the trek...

    How to Winterproof and Waterproof?

Sounds like you are doing the same things I've heard others do. If you can keep the bike (or at least battery) inside except when being ridden, that will help a bunch too. Let us know how it goes!

    Re -introduction

Welcome! Nice to hear the stories of the experienced. Don't know if ebikes are allowed on the Rim trail or not. Rules are different everywhere, and it is good to aquaint yourself with your local regs. Nice looking bikes!

    Hello from Vancouver Island!

    Please consider these safety issues...

Oh no! That sounds really painful :( . Thanks for sharing, hopefully your story can help someone else (possibly me!). Hope you heal up super-quick.

    High wattage ebikes

Holy cow...good thing I'm a slow decision maker! Definitely want a system that will multiply... Unfortunately most of the ebike shops in MD are in the flatter areas...but if anyone knows a shop in a hilly area, I can consider driving... (probably can't get to the west coast though).

    High wattage ebikes

Thank you very much for this. I did notice the change to G3, but didn't know what the difference would be... I was absolutely only considering the 500w... Here is a question... if I'm going up a super steep hill, is standing and stomping a good idea with any type of motor setup?

    High wattage ebikes

I have been eyeballing the Bionx system. Thank you for confirming its useful nature in the mountains. I have a similar 2.5 mile, 1300 ft climb that I don't HAVE to do, but would be on the agenda occasionally. The good news is my super-steep hill to get home isn't more than 1/4 or 1/2 mile, so I...

    Seat post security

Too bad bikes aren't pickle jars. Things are nigh impenetrable. I did like the looks of the locking bolt that requires the bike be flipped upside down. Simple, doesn't need special tools when you do want to make adjustments. Hopefully secure...

    Disabling speed restriction

Where is McGyver when you need him? A bit of bubble gum, duct tape, and some tin snips, and you'll be aholdin' onto that silvery toupee with one hand, and giving me the bird with the other. You'll steer with... good balance ;) .

    Disabling speed restriction

How much I have learned today... mopeds (at least in my State) are not allowed over 30mph. I was completely wrong. Sorry about that. And, I still have no idea how to get your bike to go faster...did you ever find out?
