Happy to chime in on this!
The marketing that bikes ship ready to ride out of the box is incredibly misleading (and dangerous as more and more major companies adopt d2c...)
In short: Assembled =/= adjusted
The video you linked is more or less what it looks like to unpack a Load, but getting...
We ended up eating it for them IIRC. That particular event intitally caused us to rethink how eagerly we offer air shipment to customers, but it's turned out to be a rare case as every bike since has arrived in the expected time frame.
This is more common than you'd think. We had a bike sitting for over 8wks last year. International shipping is totally fucked right no one's happy about it.
That puts you a step above @Alaskan...
Hearing R&M did their best to protect their dealers from assuming the financial loss of the recall and recommending effected customers use it as leverage to a shake an even better deal out of the dealer ontop of the aforemention 15% discount not only...
They're refunding P70 customers the full sale price of the bike and offering a 15% discount should they decide to buy a different R&M as a replacement (Load 75s have been a popular replacement so far.)
The bikes are not being recalled to Germany. We've not been told yet where they'll end up...
Right on! I'm installing my first personal Rohloff on my daily commuter next month.
I've found over the years the problems specific to R&Ms are less often with the Rohloff itself and more to do with the combination of the high tension of the belt unthreading the DU/Rohloff lockrings and various...
@Alaskan put it nicely - Low-maintenance™ alternatives to traditional derailleur drivetrains work great until they don't; at which point it can be an even bigger headache to get them running again.
R&M did a voluntary recall back in June where they sent instructions for correcting an assembly issue with the steering to dealers, but this new one mentions the bikes being recalled to the factory specifically... We'll have to wait and see.
It's also worth noting they said production has been...
It's a bit different from what I've seen - we did what was asked during the voluntary recall back June and our customers have had continued issues related to steering - the design of the steering mechanism seems to be inherently flawed in some way.
We got to hear about this from a customer which was fun. Waiting with baited breath to hear their plan as to how we're going to get our five P70s back to Germany from the states...
Correction: I was thinking about the Gen2 CX - you'll need a Gates CDX chainring to fit the spider that comes on the silent; unfortunately I don't have one on hand to confirm the BCD, but it's standard.
On the topic of fade - are those of you who are having issues holding the brake to maintain a certain speed (dragging?)
We just did a ride up to Mount St. Helens this past monday, which ended in a 15mi descent of about 30min of uninterrupted downhill riding at a sustained 26-35mph. We were on a...
You'll need a Bosch Gen2 CDX Cog for the front and an Enviolo CDX for the rear (both are made by Gates.) On the bikes we increased the gearing on, we got an increase of something like 18% by adding two teeth to the front cog and subtracting two for the rear. We did it this way so that the total...
The Gen2 CX is noticeably stronger, but if you live in a flat coastal area, the Silent should be fine.
If you find the gearing is too low, you can always replace the front and rear cogs increase it - we've done this for a few Gen2 Bikes in Seattle.
We've had a least one customer pin the rubber cover with one of the mount bolts - it works ok, but doesn't do much to keep dust and debris from getting into the charging port.
