2016 Turbo X: First week (and beyond) commuting impressions

Interesting about you thru-axle being torqued on so tight. Mine was relatively easy to remove. I think it is a good idea for everyone to try removing their thru-axle at home, just as a test. Gives some confidence when that day finally comes you have to remove your wheel on the road. Had my first...

Got a Motor Error (M-ERR) today. Bike shut down

Well that's a bummer. At least they are replacing it, but a week without your Turbo? That's like losing your internet for a week!

View of downtown St. Paul. Capital city of Minnesota. (Street View: Google Maps) While my home town of St. Paul is still playing catch-up to its Twin Cities neighbor, Minneapolis; we still have miles and miles of uninterrupted off-street bike paths.

Did a hard ride on my regular road bike..Ouch!

My old 80's Nishiki road bike is up in my attic =) I haven't been up there since I bought my Turbo X. Maybe I'll take it out for a jaunt again some day, but for now it is my "emergency backup." Of course, as you know, Turbos are so much fun, its hard to bring myself to drag it down the stairs...

    Locks

I think an alarmed lock may be a good supplement to a high quality lock. But a high quality U-Lock, Bordo or strong Chain lock will keep people with bolt cutters occupied for a while. Worst case scenario, if someone has one of those battery operated grinders, I doubt they'd care about the sounds...

First 1000 km on my Turbo S – a review from Stockholm, Sweden

I don't know if there are any difference between the Turbo S and my 2015 Turbo X. You should pull out the axle before ordering. Mine measured right about 160mm with a 1.0 thread pitch. I actually emailed them and they were very helpful in confirming the axle that I needed...

Got a Motor Error (M-ERR) today. Bike shut down

Wow, that must've been disappointing. Hopefully you didn't have to ride too far back without the motor.

CONGRATS! Will be excited to hear about your first commute. That first day is always fun. So many new things to learn about how your e-bike will change your commute. I found it took about a week before my ride style synced up with how the bike operates. Coming from a non-ebike, there were...

    2015 Turbo X, Maximum Speed?

I am really the worst person to ask about top speeds. My normal speed I travel at is probably 20MPH. I guess I'm never really in a hurry. I've certainly hit 26MPH on a number of occasions, but I've never intentionally tried to sustain it for long periods of time. One might ask why I chose a...

    Locks

Bike locks slow thieves. Even the best bike lock isn't going to be theft-proof. Best you can do is get a substantial lock (or two) and make your bike look like a pain to steal. Or at least more of a pain than the bike next to yours. =) If you live in a high crime area, two locks are the way to...

Got a Motor Error (M-ERR) today. Bike shut down

Glad you found the problem, Doug. Seems like this isn't the first time I've read here that a Turbo owner had a fault in one system caused by another.

    2015 Turbo X, Maximum Speed?

Just curious how you turn on your bike. Any chance you are doing anything with the pedals while turning it on? I know if you apply an sort of forces to the torque sensor when you turn it on, the Turbo's computers will calculate 0MPH incorrectly. This can result in a lagging performance feel...

I guess it depends on your riding style, but I've never really feel the need to change my Eco % on the fly. My go-to is Eco 50 and I really only change it unless, say it is a windy day out and I feel like I need more boost on a consistent basis. Then I just change it before I set off for my...

Got a Motor Error (M-ERR) today. Bike shut down

Hopefully it was just wiring coming loose. Given how simple these motors are, you'd think any motor errors would be wiring or overheat related. The rear lighting sounds like a good place to start checking once you get the bike back. I'm rather dreading my first power failure. I have ridden my...

Q: Has owning an e-bike changed your car driving habits?

Getting an e-bike really helped me choose my bike versus my car for short trips (<10 miles). There were always excuses: too far, too slow, too windy, too hilly. I actually get bored in my car now. Riding a bike is much more fun. Especially riding an e-bike that takes out all the hard parts of...

The build-in lights are nice and bright. Court, in his review, is right that a long jacket or shirt may block the rear light. I love having built-in lights that are always on. It gives me more confidence on my primarily road riding. In darker hours or bad weather I always use flashing lights to...

Q: Has owning an e-bike changed your car driving habits?

You bring up a very valid and important point for people considering sidelining their car. I still use my car at least once week to keep things oily. I probably won't fill it up the tank very full next time I need to—I just happened to have a full tank when I bought my bike. I'm below 1/4 of a...

Q: Has owning an e-bike changed your car driving habits?

As I've said in several other posts, I bought my e-bike for transportation, not health, fitness, etc. I bought it because my car is now 17 years old. It still runs just fine, but I feel it is not long for this earth. My hopes are to avoid replacing it when it does die and at the very least, use...

@Douglas Ruby: Yes, the eco modes could be described as changing the effort to reward ratio closer and closer to a non-electric bike. So reducing your eco % to 40 with your daughter could be thought of as the difference between your cycling effort-to-speed ratio vs her's. Reading experiences...

Additional Thoughts...for people who've never ridden an e-bike. Specialized really made a bike lover's bike. These bikes are for people who just love pedaling along on a bicycle, but hate hills, hate strong headwinds and slow high-exertion starts. The Specialized Turbo slogan should be: "Just...
