    11 -34 freewheel

The convenience and joy of full throttle is definitely seductive.

    11 -34 freewheel

The main takeaway being that it is preferable for hub motor longevity for the rider to contribute via the pedals on a big hillclimb than sit back and burn out the motor on full throttle. So if there are big elevation changes along the expected journey, @Darceman's clear preference for the 34t...

    11 -34 freewheel

@ebikester there are a bunch that will fit. If your commute is mostly flat, a 28t "hill gear" is plenty. 34t would be a real stump-puller with power assist. Don't forget the FR1.3 Park Tool

"Sons of Angioplasty" or "Seniors on Bikes" - which one is for you?

I happily "indoctrinated" five fully-grown adult strangers with their first e-bike rides yesterday. A new one day high score for me. Felt a bit like Billy Mitchell.

    Battery seat post lock

I'm not sure it's quite this simple. The bike frame cinch point is not squared-off evenly on both sides like a normal bike frame. One side is scalloped to seat the OEM quick release. Not impossible, just means some improvisation might be necessary.

what is the most comfortable and safe helmut you've used

@mutazoid they say the safest helmet is the one you actually want to wear. For head, and neck protection, the Hövding 3 airbag looks pretty amazing. The 800g ring drapes onto shoulders not head. I very nearly chose this one. It may not be everyone's cup of tea as far as aesthetic. Not sure...

"Sons of Angioplasty" or "Seniors on Bikes" - which one is for you?

For now, my alliance is going to be reserved for the quiet and gentle e-bike counterculture movement called "Park the Cars". We won't travel in packs with ominous finger-snapping, or have jean jackets, age-discrimination, or initiation rights. Officer Krupke won't even know who we are. There's...

I Am Seeing A Lot Of New Ebikes With No Front Suspension

It might be more useful to board users to compile a compendium of after-market front suspension options by wheel diameter, brake type, and hub widths, rather than debating the merits of underpants and potatoery. If someone wants to retrofix their ebike with a front suspension, they don't need...

    Battery seat post lock

@Erichb I went to the hardware store and made my own 10mm x 1m stainless steel tether. Clamped either end and shrunk-wrapped in matte black rubber. Looks pretty good, and the seat can go up and down for different users, using OEM quick release (which is custom Qualisports).

I Am Seeing A Lot Of New Ebikes With No Front Suspension

Yes, I think we were both glad we didn't suffer what SpaceX likes to call a "rapid unscheduled disassembly".

    Big name bikes and Bafang

Bafang's hub motors, around in one form or another since 2003, are just one out of a laundry list of cost-effective and easily-supplied/swapped component choices when shopping white-labelled frames made in Chinese state factories (many of them pumping out the same designs). Alibaba lists 38.663...

I Am Seeing A Lot Of New Ebikes With No Front Suspension

@Asher here's the clip from my Classon helmet cam...5lb chicken at 25mph = kinetic energy of 104.47 foot lbs. That's enough to break the wheel, fork, and rider (not to mention the chicken).

Bike lock for a city that's not very bike friendly

@Joecreed that's a beautiful ride, and worth more than some of the cars in my neighborhood. As @Code54 suggested: insurance, and best secured inside a trusted space (esp at night). Then a big U lock w cable extenders for seat, front/rear wheel. The headset diamond is not the section of frame...

I Am Seeing A Lot Of New Ebikes With No Front Suspension

I might be able to bunny hop over a couple surprise pot holes, but a series of road hazards at 25+ mph closure, boxed-in with traffic, and I find myself longing for full-hydraulic disk brakes AND an adjustable/lockout front air suspension - preferably magnesium. I was almost taken out yesterday...

    Bike cameras

@Silvercat scour Vancouver/Whistler Kijiji or Ebay for a used GoPro Hero 6 or > right now. The kids that got new cameras for Christmas will be listing their old tech now. You might need to stretch to $150 to get the image stabilization you want. Here's a Hero7 NOS in box for $122 or make an...

    Smart helmet?

6 month consumer update: the company formerly known as Brooklyness re-branded to Beyond a month or two ago. Their V1S scooter subscription is their main revenue line. They have been providing some of these to NYC-area frontline workers and hospital staff, which is pretty cool of them. Alas...

Will Boomerang V2 Cyclo Trac ever come back? It looked promising.

@Muffets, I also was expecting longer standby and was surprised by how quickly the battery level dropped. I have about 10-20 days standby in sleep mode, which isn't 4 months, but nor is it less than a full commuting day. I don't think it is a wiring short or anything like that, more likely...

    Forum Features: Your Opinion Wanted!

I honestly don't care, or need to know, what region commentators reside. If they want to volunteer that, fine. Where someone sleeps at night, or pedals their bike, is completely immaterial to the credibility, and/or intention of the source of info. It's also tone-deaf to our day-to-day...
