    Chain stretch

My factory chain on my rear hub motor ebike was stretched out at 1,200 miles but the high quality replacement (can't recall the brand and model) looks great on the stretch gauge at 2,200 miles. I do average about 150 watts during my commute (I imagine that amount of power being transmitted...

    Police Harassment

I for one, to minimize my impact on society and insurance costs, wear a full fire retardant race jump suit and full face helmet any time I leave the house. I simply can't have respect for anyone who doesn't also do the same. Seriously: Your take is crazy. Do you lose respect for folks that...

    Police Harassment

Marci: Have you ever ridden a bike without a helmet? It is a wonderful feeling, I highly encourage it. Also, if you concerned about becoming a "carrot brain", you should also wear a helmet when driving or anytime inside a car. The risk of a head injury still exists even when inside a 3,000...

Why I won't buy another Rad Power bike (aka support your local bike shop)

As a former facility engineer for UPS, I can provide some more insight into their handling of any over 70 lb package or irregular shaped package. Instead of being handled on conveyors, "irregulars" or "irregs" are slid down a metal slide where a person moves it to a cart that's pulled by an...

Suggestions on Market Value of E-bikes

Agreed. Most of them seem to drop quickly. My $2000 bike would sell quickly at $1000, maybe I could get $1250 if I wasn't in a hurry.

Erik Buell launches Fuell E-bikes and E-motorcycles

A Stromer ST5 weighs 66 lbs so 69 is right there. I guess it depends what you are after. Any ebike with 1,000 watt-hours of capacity isn't likely to be anywhere near 45 lbs. I suppose someone could custom build such a beast. A Juiced CCX comes in at 58 lbs so that's closer. That being...

Bike rack activism (let's get more bike racks out there in the world!)

I make it a point to talk with the manager or whomever is in charge whenever I visit a store on my e-bike that doesn't have a bike rack. I'm always polite and point out that I'm locked up to a fence or light pole, etc. I've asked at Home Depot several times to no avail but the local grocery...

    Walkway over the Hudson

I've walked it a few times now and it's definitely worth the trip. It's a fun place to take family when they are visiting from out of town. We've always parked on the east side, then walked over and back. There are always a good number of folks biking across and the trail continues on both...

Volton Campaign is Live. 3 new bikes and new Alation models on discount.

The Stow description mentions a disc brake and suspension fork, but the pictures shows neither of those. Also, what is the top speed?

    Any Garmin Connect users?

Take a look at the Strava Global Heatmap. If you have a Strava account, you can select cycling only and zoom into street level to see where folks are biking. It works great to find new routes. I’m a Garmin connect user but I think you’ll find the Strava heatmap more useful.

    20,000 Kilometer Check-In

Eric, in your other post you mentioned that your wife has the same bike. I’m thinking of getting the Model S for my daughter but I’m concerned about the weight of the bike. My daughter is 5’4” and 120 pounds. She runs track and cross country and bikes a fair bit too but this bike seems heavy at...

    Amego Infinte/Magnum Metro+/Voltbike Bravo

I own a Metro+. It will not get to 28mph, stops assisting around 25 mph on the highest level of PAS. Well, it will get to 28 mph but you'll be doing all of the work! I've had a few issues with broken spokes, I now check their tension every other week if I'm using it alot and I haven't had...

Things just keep getting worse for e-scooters

How many folks posting in this thread have actually ridden a Lime or Bird scooter? Seriously foks, I’d like to know which of the above opinions are based on actual experience. I have ridden both and I think they a great solution to urban transport. Any option is better than a car! And with...

Erik Buell launches Fuell E-bikes and E-motorcycles

They just launched a website: https://fuell.us/ They have the specs listed as: -100 N-m -125 miles -980 Wh -Starting at $3,295 That would be a similar battery capacity to the Stromer ST5, which lists the range at 60 to 180 km (37 to 111 miles). As we can guess, the 125 mile range would be...

    ABS for E-Bikes

Oh, it's not the benchmark and there aren't any bench marks for e-bike brake testing. I simply used it as a reference as I can easily achieve 60 mph while coasting down a long hill near my home (on my drop bar road bike and my e-bike). That's all. I guess that makes me a nut.

    ABS for E-Bikes

Sorry, I forgot about the published numbers for motorcycles. Thanks for posting those! It’s interesting that the BMW R1200R out stops a CBR300 ABS. In regards to brake rotor size, the larger or multiple rotors simply dissipate heat better for repeated stopping, say during a track day or race...

    ABS for E-Bikes

Ah, but I wasn’t comparing your motorcycle to an e-bike. I was comparing a 250cc scooter without ABS. Frankly, we will never know as nobody publishes stopping distances for e-bikes let alone scooters or motorcycles. I should add that the number and size of brake rotors is irrelevant. As long...

    ABS for E-Bikes

I wonder how the stopping distance would compare say between your 250cc scooter without ABS vs. an e-bike with ABS, both while descending the same hill at 60 mph? Based on my vehicle test experience (I used to do vehicle and motorcycle brake tests (FMVSS 122 IIRC) at a major vehicle test...

    ABS for E-Bikes

I've hit 60 mph while descending on my e-bike. Should I have been going that fast? No. Was it fun? Yes, and I'll do it again. Would I like to have ABS for $500? It's probably cheaper than an accident and for someone who uses their e-bike daily like a car, it's a worthwhile option to have...
