If I remember correctley, there is a thick washer on the inside of the chain-stay on both sides of the wheel that is the same size. It keeps the wheel and axle from falling out of the chain-stay once it's positioned correctly - so I believe thickness may be important.

They must of changed them on the ST2's - my 2013 St1 Platinum came with a Sun Race MFEX9 - 9AU that has four wide slots on the lock-ring.

My local bike shop couldn't use their locknut tool on the cassette lock-ring - they said they needed a special spanner wrench. The lock-ring on my Stromer cassette has a grove at 12-3-6 & 9 o'clock.

What tool did you use to remove the cassette? My local bike shop tried to remove mine and they didn't have the correct tool to remove it.

I would also like to hear about the fix.

The shop I bought my ST1 from installed a Fox Factory CTD fork - it works like a charm and I ride a lot of off-road. I have had warranty work done on the bike since then, and no one said anything about my aftermarket fork.
