@PDoz - no hard shell, just Kevlar. Kevlar (IMHO!) is as tough and abrasive as the pavement I hit. Thus a cotton layer “under” to reduce the friction and thus less of a “rug burn!”…. Not sure about the progressive hardening, but my wife could see the pads waffle pattern in my elbow scrape…. -BB
