    The new turbo Vado 2017

I would agree with that. However I did a review of the Moustache Friday 27 Speed which is Bosch-powered, and it was amazing too, and better up hills than the Turbo S. Handled brilliantly which is where I think the Vado will eclipse the Turbo S. Being Bosch likely means that batteries etc are...

    Replacement front chainring

I've done 7800km on my Turbo now and feel the need to do a cassette/chain replacement, and figure I should do the front chainring at the same time. Has anyone done a replacement -- and what with? I'm relatively happy with the gear ratios although might like something slightly taller than 48T if...

Wish your Turbo S had front suspension?

Some finished shots. Really, the Paragon forks are highly recommended and really quite cheap, all things considereed. Catalogue of mods: - DMR V12 pedals - S motor - Moved light to bars (used/adapted bracket from another light) - Paragon Gold fork - Adapted front mudguard - Koolstop brakes -...

Wish your Turbo S had front suspension?

After 2 commuting days I can happily report that life is totally freekin' awesome with the Rockshox. I can't believe the difference it makes. I don't notice the difference in geometry (since I tweaked the headset spacers and inverted stem etc). The bike just feels good, so smooth! Highly...

Wish your Turbo S had front suspension?

Have completed it (I think!). Fitting the fork itself was straightforward, it's the attachments that caused my some headscratching. The aftermarket fork that seems to be available is the Paragon Gold TL Disk 65mm. The Turbo X has 50mm which means the geometry will end up a bit different. The...

Wish your Turbo S had front suspension?

That looks like quite some engineering @Fighter Mine arrived today, will try to install this weekend.

Wish your Turbo S had front suspension?

Nice, thanks for sharing. Any drama fitting it? (other than sourcing a bajillion headset spacers!)

Wish your Turbo S had front suspension?

Just waiting for my Rockshox Paragon suspension fork to be delivered (was hoping it would be today). I ordered via bike-components.de (only Euro 170 / USD182 delivered to NZ) -- only difference from the Turbo X is that it is 65mm rather than 50mm. It seems that you can't get the 50mm aftermarket...

    Broken spokes

@Tom Brossart I recently went through 4 spokes on the rear Turbo S wheel - each one broke at the hub end. I replaced these myself - once I had done one it wasn't all that hard using a screwdriver and a spoke tool. I trued the wheel on the bike using a cable tie on the chainstay as the...

Replacing entire Turbo front brake system

A few of us have discovered that the brakes are less garbage if you use different pads. I've done over 4000kms with a set of KoolStop pads. They are powerful and quiet. I don't think you will be sorry with your upgrade though, I too have considered it on a number of occasions.

In Depth 2015 Turbo X Review

Yeah, I wish it was a bit lighter. Over 400g is a bit much if you have a forward stance on a bike. Probably just fine for a typicall city or commuter bike. The Livall Bling is much lighter but the turn signals and controls on the Bling aren't as good. I found that my intents were well noted on...

In Depth 2015 Turbo X Review

Assuming yours is the 200W version (SBC-M02) it cuts out at 26. With the slightly nobblier tyres on the X and higher front-end you can expect to be a bit slower than the base Turbo. I imagine that is why the 2016 version went with the 250W motor which is about 20% more powerful in reality...

Nice! How is that Lumos helmet working for you @James Kohls ? I reviewed it and quite liked it.

    The new turbo Vado 2017

I think the Vados will be very nice though. To get the same speed as a current Turbo you will need to go for the upper models (5.0). I see the model line-up isn't yet available on the Spesh USA site but try Switzerland or Deutschland (using Chrome to translate it into English).

My 13 ebike hill climbing mega test

@Mark Peralta I do what I can. Getting bikes to test from Evo is a mission - it's a 280km round trip for me to the nearest store which is a problem when I do this as a hobby. Even the Pedegos are a problem - the Smartmotion people who sell them are not very responsive. RE speed limiters yes it...

My 13 ebike hill climbing mega test

Mark, we don't get either of those in New Zealand. My likely next test subject will be a Turbo Vado 3.0 in May (the less powerful). I should get my hands on a Vado 5.0 around June. It's also worth noting that two bikes in different places might be different. Eg the Smartmotion bikes (designed in...

    The new turbo Vado 2017

You will always be able to get your battery repacked by a 3rd party in the future. I think you do have to accept though that ebikes don't have the same practical lifespan as a regular bike. So 5 years might be a reasonable expectation, possibly with a battery replacement in the interim.

My 13 ebike hill climbing mega test

I did a 'scientific' test of a whole range of bikes up hill. Which one was best? Will repeat with the Vado when one is available in around a month using the same 'scientific' test methodology. https://electricbikesnz.com/2017/04/02/the-13-ebike-hill-climbing-mega-test/ Hope you like it.

    2016 Turbo S vs 2016 Stromer St2

Richard, I bought them online via Bike24.com - just ordered another set so have have them in reserve when I need them.

    Tyres for the Turbo

I don't think the difference could be in the tyres. There will be at most 10-20W difference between one tyre and the next. Perhaps the difference is that you have gone to a smaller overall diameter and so your speedo is reading more. But I'd expect that difference to be 1-2km/h. I have 47c...
