You can find a cheap die, but could not guarantee results. Stem tube needs to be about 1/8” wall thickness. Could be done on a lathe, single pointing the threads, between centers after making an appliance to hold the fork end.

Just saw Tars post after typing this. And yes, I agree with Tars about the nut. After looking at your recent pictures, there is a pretty good probability that there are / were no threads in the frame. Only worn in threads from the bolt pushing against the hole to swage / deform the hole...

You could also use a Dremel tool with a cut-off wheel to grind a screwdriver slot in the stud. Or a small chisel and hammer around the periphery of the stud to rotate it CCW.

I worked at N.A.S. Pensacola. People would spray machines down with WD-40 at the end of day shift to come back to brown surfaces, (rust), the next day. ATF or Marvel Mystery Oil works. Just sayin.

Looks like a good project! Probably have to build some kind of bridge / spacer to go between the motor and the bottom bracket to run the cables through.

Johnsons Paste Wax makes a good sealer for Ferrous parts. Apply it, then wipe it off. I use it on my machine tables and I live in the rust belt. My .02

I am looking into getting folding rear bike baskets that would be permanently attached to my bike. I would like them to fold flat reducing the overall width so as not to hinder mounting the bikes on my Saris bike carrier. What is popular and works? TIA, Keith

And when then newly installed turn sensors fail and someone crashes and burns, then what to do? IMO, there just needs to be instructions explaining this tendency accompanying the bike. Everybody reads instructions. Right?
