    Step-Thru

I'd say something like the Allant 7+ should be on the list... $3000 Canadian cheaper MSRP than the Vado 5.0 at $4999 vs $7999 for the Vado 5. The Allant 7 CAN accommodate the larger 625Wh battery (default is 500), which brings it closer in line to the Vado 5's 710Wh, and probably still a lighter...

Barbecue grill for a safe charging station?

If you can find a cheap steel grill, then I think it should work. One concern would be heat though, if in direct sunlight. The inside of a closed grill can get pretty hot, which isn't good for battery life.

    Sywitch bike

I recall the older model coming up in discussions here including one EBR user put it on a Brompton and liking it. I would guess that the motor is the same 36V 250W of their older kit, just with a funkier battery design (and maybe updated pedal sensor?).

Is an oval chainring a no-no on an ebike?

I'll admit, I had to scratch my head at some of the answers, as they didn't quite make sense to me. :) After looking at a couple of emtb forum asking the same question, the big issue would be that the chainring moves independent of the ring (the chainring doesn't move when pedaling backwards)...

Is an oval chainring a no-no on an ebike?

Is that right though, on a torque sensing mid-drive? In the "silly questions" department, if an elliptical chain minimizes the dead zone by smoothing out the torque delivery to the rear wheel, wouldn't it also do the same for motor output (less spikey, especially on a climb)?

When your e6000 motor needs replacing

The closest thing I've seen to an adapter kit is this motor frame meant for custom builders https://www.ticycles.com/ticycletubes/motor-cabinet-shimano-steps-e6100-e7000-e8000-lightweight-steel-bracket A good frame builder might be able to replace the old plates with the side plates from this...

Orbea Kemen - more trekking oriented, and with the standard EP8, not RS. The RS has demonstrated some exceptional mileage per Wh in some online tests, so it's surprising a trekking oriented bike has the regular EP8. (updated)

Shimano steps is not a good choice (no spare parts for the drive)

Sorry to hear about your troubles. Bookmarking that site, just in case. Knock on wood, but my Shimano E6100 has been through 6000km of worry free riding (with more offroad than originally intended).

Can I charge my Jetson Bolt Pro folding electric bike battery directly from a solar panel?

Yeah, I guesstimated about 25%-30% loss efficiency off the top of my head, so 33% sounds about right. It sounds like the OP's biggest hurdle is not using the gas genny to recharge the bike while at the RV, as opposed to extending the single ride range, so I figured a portable power station that...

Can I charge my Jetson Bolt Pro folding electric bike battery directly from a solar panel?

I've read conflicting opinions on charging e-bikes directly with solar and an inverter, but it certainly can be done. Another option is to use a small battery power station like a Jackery 300 that can be charged via solar, then charging the e-bike with that. I know there's a loss of...

    Bike insurance

It's a good idea? ;) There's been lots of discussion about it... https://electricbikereview.com/forums/search/3543654/?q=insurance&c[title_only]=1&o=relevance Check your home policy... Some home/content polices include e-bikes as "exercise equipment" (we have coverage this way with our...

Contemplating commuting: can I keep my ebike in the sunlight and heat all day?

I saw an unboxing video of this just yesterday, and the battery is definitely removeable... Don't trust the bad photoshop with lightning bolts around the cells. :) The battery case looks like the same style found in other in-frame fat folders like the Lectric XP.

To show just how radical one can get with a mountain bike that triples or quadruples your pedalling power, Akrigg has produced a new Full Force edit.

When I was young, I had all the nerve, but never that level of skill, and the scars to prove it. :D Videos like these (and Wibmer) make me wish I could turn back time, but no regrets. Eyes on the trails ahead. :)

How do you secure your bike?

Maybe not where you live, but most urban centers are rife with angle grinding thieves. The litter of cut U-Locks are ample evidence of that here in Toronto, and YouTube is chalk full of thieves caught on video and not giving a crap. One incident from London just this past week...

Spring Seats vs. Suspension Posts - What's the Better Choice?

A good suspension post combined with a proper saddle setup shouldn't require a sprung saddle, IMHO. My current setup is a Redshift ShockStop suspension post and a regular saddle (Ergon), and it works well enough that I don't feel saddle sore after a 60km ride (about 70% asphalt/30% gravel-dirt...

Friendly Advice To New Buyers -- Avoid Indiegogo & Crowdfunding

100% this. I've never backed an "out of the blue" company, as they fail way too much. The video you shared is a perfect example of someone Kickstarting with good intentions, but WAY too early in the development stage, and not enough grasp on the realities on the ground. A friend of mine...

    Curse continues! Rear flat again.....

Watched a few demonstrations of FlatOut Sportsman Formula, but couldn't get in Canada without exorbitant import fees. Some finally cropped up on Amazon, and arrived yesterday, so will be adding it today... supposedly good for up to 1/2" cuts, but this quick thumbtack test sold me. :)

looks like a new Serious Lock thats pretty much uncuttable.

Gotta say that the performance/weight ratio looks pretty good, especially when compared to comically large Altor SAF. This might suffice along with my Every Day Carry Bordo folding lock when I'm doing grocery runs, whereas I would normally bring my Beast chain setup, and significantly lighten...

looks like a new Serious Lock thats pretty much uncuttable.

Being a less attractive target is a perfectly valid strategy. :) If I see a $1000+ Specialized bike locked up with a cable combination lock, I'll definitely park beside that. And I've seen that before. :)
