    Another class needed?

In the context of e-bikes on trails and land management issues, I'd say even a 20mph limited throttle is "worse" than a pedal assist that goes to 28mph. It's not about speed, so much as it's a lot easier to "chew up the scenery" so to speak (and having done it at the beach, it's kind of fun as...

    Another class needed?

For the kind of bikes/trails being discussed in the SingleTracks article, it's a ridiculous direction to go. They're talking about Class 1 bikes, and Jeff Kendall-Weed's recent video sums up my opinion, and it's appropriately titled... "Why are we so afraid of eMTB?" Long and short of that...

Do ebikes get more flats ?

As someone who rides in the city, the idea of hitting up the gas station for air just makes Schrader marginally more convenient in rare circumstances, especially in the cold. Not that it's a deeply held belief. :)

Do ebikes get more flats ?

It comes with a tube in the bottle that fits over the valve. The cap also has a plastic valve core remover, so in THEORY you don't need anything else. I personally wouldn't trust the plastic core remover though, especially since an aluminum valve core remover is pretty cheap ($5-$10 bucks)

Do ebikes get more flats ?

I wouldn't recommend it. Both use basically the same amount of liquid per tube volume, so you'd be having twice as much gunk sloshing around, and who knows how they react to each other when mixed.

Do ebikes get more flats ?

If you're going with tubes, I'd recommend FlatOut Sportsman formula. It provides more robust puncture protection than Slime, costs less (though there's a markup on it lately) and will last 10+ years before needing to be changed out, probably due to the automotive nature of its origins. Until...

How do you keep rust of your bike/bolts/parts

Probably the be-all end-all of anti-corrosion tests, though Boeshield isn't included (may be a UK thing?) A whole whack of different option, after sitting in a 5% salt water bath for 23 days straight... It's by far the most comprehensive (and independent) test I've seen, as performed by...

Bafang Ultra Owners - Does Your Battery Remaining Percentage Jump Around Under Load?

Haha! We've been calling the first 15 "go-go juice". It's REALLY a world of difference from 100 to 50. So below 35% should be called "no-fun" juice. :D

Bafang Ultra Owners - Does Your Battery Remaining Percentage Jump Around Under Load?

I think the difference is largely in the BMS, and how it delivers power to the motor. I don't know about the Bafang Ultra, but for the Bafang hub bikes I've ridden, they're a lot more punchy when fully charged compared to 50% drained, whereas a Shimano or Bosch motor "feels" the same whether...

DIY 200 Watt Solar Portable Recharging and Emergency Power Station

yeah, since just about any object with a few inches of height can be used to line up the shadow, making a specific contraption strikes me as a bit overkill, especially since most cyclists will have a water bottle handy. :)

Batteries and What do you do when the manufacturer is no more?

Yep, many of the e-bike specific brands seem to use Reention battery cases. Reention seemed to make a name for itself with the Dorado series. http://reention.com/en/gndch/ Heck, even old Silver Fish cases that have been around forever (over a decade) are still available either with batteries...

Wear a helmet and discard the broken and probably old ones

Glad to hear things are better now! I've become more picky about my helmets since switching over to an e-bike. Also been looking at satellite options for next year when I plan on doing some more multi-day trips, especially since I've got a heart condition too, and a couple of routes would have...

DIY 200 Watt Solar Portable Recharging and Emergency Power Station

The beer/pop/can trick is an easy, usually available, hack for optimizing the angle. Rest a (clean and empty :) ) can/mug/bottle (or anything really but circular is best) flat on the panel then tilt the panel so that the shadow is straight down onto the panel, and Bob's yer uncle. Another...

How do you keep rust of your bike/bolts/parts

Here's a thread from 2019 (more about protecting the electronics, but applicable). https://electricbikereview.com/forums/threads/waterproofing-electrical-components.29594/ I tried ACF50 as per a few recommendations, and it's a solid product. It's far more anti-corrosive than WD40, and...

Any serious review about the recent Orbea Kemen ?

Yeah, that's why I was thinking it's odd that they didn't go with the RS model, given the range difference. I'd really like to know how much power saving one gets on a regular EP8 that's been dialed back on the torque, compared to the EP8-RS. Maybe the RS has other firmware tweaks that are...

Any serious review about the recent Orbea Kemen ?

Reportedly around 43lbs, so not as light as a SL, but 5-10lbs lighter than most other bikes with a 540wh battery. I'm intrigued by the Urrun in particular because my cocktail napkin math suggests that with more trekking type tires, and that battery/motor combo, over 200km per charge is doable...

Any serious review about the recent Orbea Kemen ?

There's not a lot of news about the Kemen or Urrun (I keep checking for reviews), but the Orbea specs say the Kemen is using the standard EP8, not their tuned down RS, and in the product photos, there's no additional RS badging on the motor. I'm guessing that since they're pushing the Kemen as...

Keeping it Legal for the Common Good, Staying Within the Legal Classes

Indeed! I know people in this form defend wearing earbuds or even over-the-ear headphones, and that's fine, but from my experience, joggers (and people who rent the city bikes here in Toronto) with said headphones do NOT have pass-through audio enabled. :)
