    Specialized battery solution. Problem solved!

OK this is a deep dive and solution into the battery fitment problem on Vado’s. My OCD simply wouldn’t allow me to live with this problem any longer. Short term I was using tape to keep the battery in place. Effective but too amateur. So I had a look inside the battery case to see how this all...

    Onboard generator

46 added pounds makes the idea a non starter. However you could add two batteries and a quality charger like a Satiator for a total weight of around 20 pounds. Put one battery in each pannier to get the weight lower in the frame. It would give you triple the range and not require any wiring. If...

    Vado broken rear spokes

Well I have great news. The owner of the LBS made my case with Specialized and they agreed to cover the cost of a new wheel! I had to pay $50 for shipping and handling but it was worth it for a brand new wheel. The wheel came with a new cassette and the LBS adjusted the derailleur so it is...

    Vado broken rear spokes

I must disagree. I believe it’s problem that goes back to the mentality of road bike weight weenies. They focus on every gram added and manufacturers know this so they concentrate on weight at the expense of both cost and reliability. That’s why bike components are so expensive compared to...

    Vado broken rear spokes

At the moment the dealer is claiming the rim is fine so no warranty. However rebuilding a wheel costs more than installing a new replacement wheel. The two year warranty only applies to Specialized branded items, the frame, the rims, the battery and the motor. However spokes are DT Swiss and...

    Vado broken rear spokes

You are correct. The dealer lied to me. The rims are lifetime but spokes are at least two years. Thanks.

    Vado broken rear spokes

At around 4,600 km I broke a rear spoke. LBS repaired it for $50. No warranty after 1 year. At 4,900 km I broke another rear spoke and the dealer wants another $50. I asked if there were other alternatives to improve the life. I only ride on paved bike paths or on the road, no gravel or dirt. I...

    Battery Cost: $1,299

Here is one from my area. http://www.chansbattery.ca/battery-rebuild Court interviewed a large rebuilder in the US as well. I suspect there are many.

    Battery Dilemma

Are there no battery rebuilding shops near where you live? They will repack the case with all new batteries at half the cost as long as the plastic case and hardware are good.

    Battery Cost: $1,299

Another option for replacement batteries is getting the case repackaged with new batteries. You can choose the cells you want and the cost is less than half of what a new factory unit costs. There are many shops doing this now.

    Ideal battery and motor temperature?

BLevo is an app that gives you access to everything and also allows you to customize what you can see as you you ride. It also has a good mapping setup. I think it only works on Specialized but there may be other apps for other brands that do the same thing...

    Ideal battery and motor temperature?

Thanks for the information. So I guess using a warm battery stored inside on a cold day is no problem at all because it will only get hotter as you start to ride.

    Ideal battery and motor temperature?

I just downloaded Blevo for my Vado 4 and now after two rides I am inundated with new information. The first ride the outdoor temp. was 2-3C. Battery was in the garage and started at 11C but warmed up to 14C during the ride. The temperature today was 6C and my average battery temp was 22C. Is...

    Specialized battery solution. Problem solved!

Just when I thought I had it under control. My battery popped out of the bike while I was riding and hit the pavement. Arrrgh. I went up a transition from the road to the bike path and the small bump jarred the battery loose and out. This is the first time the battery actuall fell off the bike...

    bafang 750 watt hub motor,

Speed is not a problem for hub drives but hills are. You can climb with a hub drive but you have to give up speed to do it. Hub drives love high speed flat work. However I have never ridden a 750 watt motor that’s 3 times more than most ebikes so I doubt you will have any problems.

Don't take your hands off the handlebars of your ebike !

I’m a little late to this thread and I won’t comment on masks. I spend about 10 % of every ride with no hands, been doing it my whole life. Never fell off or came close. However that’s me and I can ride a unicycle. Bumps and curves are not really a problem even if they are unexpected, a short...

    Specialized battery solution. Problem solved!

As I have said before on this thread. This battery locking mechanism is flawed. A certain percentage of these batteries will never be reliably inserted. Some are worse than others. If your lucky like Stefan then you won the lottery and won’t understand the difficulty that some owners will face...
