What Do You Do With Your Old Unused Conventional Bikes?

@6zfshdb, I am glad you did not use the term "acoustic" to describe conventional bikes. Bikes are not like guitars, and it is a butchering of language to say that conventional bikes are acoustic, even as some of us pluck spokes and listen to their vibration to ascertain their tension. My two...

Will a Jones H-Bar work with a Lectric XP 3.0

I don't have Lectric bikes, but I have been using Jones H-bars on my ebikes for years. One is a Haibike AllMtn, the other a Yuba Spicy Curry AT. I like the Jones H-bar with 2.5-inch rise. I also found that the longer 710mm bar sweeps back further than the short one—it's not just wider—which is...

    Yamaha Civante Motor

I don't have a Civante but I have a 2016 Haibike AllMtn with a Yamaha PW motor. It has worked flawlessly all these years. At about 15,000 miles I had eBike Motor Repair overhaul it as preventive maintenance, replacing all seals and bearings. I am now close to 20,000 miles, with no problems.

Announcement & Update on EBR Ownership

Thank you, Court! I began reading EBR in 2015, and in January 2016 bought my first ebike, an entry-level Magnum Ui5. I kept reading EBR and within six months sold that bike and bought my second bike, a Haibike AllMtn full-suspension with Yamaha motor. It was a huge upgrade, and I made it with...

    Which is better?

I have used the pop-off pedals from Flatbike. They work fine. You have to watch out for grit or sand getting in the mechanism, making them difficult to remove. If they get stuck, you may have remove them by pushing them from the backside, i.e. from the inside of the crank arm. Keep them...

8+ months of research, 100s of hours, know what I need & want but can't find it

There are many cargo ebikes with larger wheels, including those from Yuba, Xtracycle, and Surly. But then you run into the problem of bikes that are not really step-through, or not small enough for you.

8+ months of research, 100s of hours, know what I need & want but can't find it

@BurroBabe, you are right in thinking the right fit is probably the most important thing to consider. In your case it is probably worth spending the money to get the right size frame. You asked what else is out there: The Tern HSD has front suspension. The Tern NBD has a low step (15.4" off the...

When was the last time You listened to a record album?

I just received a new pressing of Miles Davis' soundtrack for Lift to the Scaffold, a 1957 Louis Malle noir film. The entire composition was improvised in the recording studio! Side A is the soundtrack. Side B is not from the soundtrack, but includes Miles Davis with Cannonball Adderley, John...

New Cargo Bike for the European Market (Specialized Porto)

It looks like a good bike. I like the choice of 2.8-inch plus-size tires. I agree with @AvalancheRun that it would be better with front suspension and a suspension seat post. Its mullet configuration is similar to the one in my Yuba Spicy Curry AT (which has front suspension). The smaller wheel...

When was the last time You listened to a record album?

I have been collecting vinyl since the 1960's. I play them on a MoFi Studio Deck. I still own a Thorens TD 160. In the past I've had Acoustic Research, Ariston, Denon, and Linn turntables. The most recent album I played, yesterday and today, is The Doors, the one with Light My Fire on side one.

Saddle pressure, numbness, and maintaining sexual health at 59

@Jeremy McCreary, I have the SQLabs 602 M-D Active Cr-Mo on my Yuba Spicy Curry, a cargo bike that I ride almost upright (with some weight on the handlebars), and a 601 Ergolux on my Haibike AllMtn, a mountain bike that I ride with more weight on the handlebars. I use Jones H-Bars with 2.5-inch...

    Enviolo or Rohloff?

My experience with an Enviolo hub on a Tern HSD S+ was that it was not as efficient as casette gears nor would it shift at the right moment. I know you wanted a comparison between Enviolo and Rohloff, but don't forget regular gears if you want the most efficient transfer of power for climbing.

    Searching for the perfect ebike

@MCWeber, another steel-frame ebike would be Jones: https://www.jonesbikes.com/e-bikes/ They use a Bafang mid-drive motor which, I suspect, is less refined than say Bosch or Yamaha, but more powerful. Their steel frames should be very good. I use their H-Bars on both my ebikes. I wish they...

    Searching for the perfect ebike

@MCWeber, I'm a big admirer of Rivendell bikes and their overall philosophy. I believe if you talk to the folks at Rivendell they will warn you away from carbon-fiber frames and forks. Their argument goes something like this: One microscopic crack and the frame or fork becomes dangerous, and you...

    anybody have riding videos?

I have years of footage but don't have the time to edit, although I have the skills and the tools (Mac with Final Cut Pro). I began riding ebikes in 2016 and soon attached my GoPros to my bikes. I would record nearly every ride, and I ride four times a week, 20 to 40 miles per ride. I thought...

Do most speed sensor systems use a magnet that's mounted to a wheel spoke

Both my Haibike and my Yuba ebikes use a magnet mounted on a wheel spoke. I've owned the Haibike since 2016 and and have over 15,000 miles, on and off road. I've had the Yuba for 18 months, on and off road, riding it four times a week. No problems with the magnet on either bike whatsoever...
