WTF! Why do people cheat on fitness apps?

All technology can be used to enable crappy behavior. Ebikes are firmly in that category too. There are definitely riders who would be ok on a normal bike but ride like raging dickheads when they get a motor and throttle. Ok? I don't either. It sounds like seeing people posting their rides...

WTF! Why do people cheat on fitness apps?

 Jeebus, c'mon guys. Tracking rides and using strava/whatever doesn't make cycling less pure or indicate some sort of mental problem. I know lots of very passionate cyclists who track their rides. Some of them are like me, just liking the data, keeping up with where friends riding...

    Road-e for 2024?

Yeah, I have a 2020 with the 375whr battery. Biggest drawback to it, but to be fair the next year it had a 500whr battery which is still being sold as an upgrade for the older bikes. Giants sold that version of the Revolt-E until late 2022 when it and the Road-E dropped off the website and they...

WTF! Why do people cheat on fitness apps?

I think most serious cyclists love riding, even if they are working hard and look unhappy. I enjoy riding but do ride for fitness as well and I’m sure when Im pushing hard up a climb Im not smiling.

    Road-e for 2024?

Wasn't the Revolt basically the Toughroad replacement? I feel like they were very similar.

    Road-e for 2024?

Thats good to hear. Hopefully they have an updated Revolt ebike (or something along those lines) coming as well. Full power e-gravel just seems like such an under-served market.

WTF! Why do people cheat on fitness apps?

The files that GPS units create (.fit, .gpx, whatever) are basically xml files. Just a list of data in an open, easily readable format. At some interval (usually every second) your unit just records your exact gps position as well as any other data the unit records (heart rate, elevation...

    Communication options manufacturers

Weight has never really been noticeable. Sure, a bit heavier than a lightweight road helmet (which is what I use when I ride by myself) but nothing that has ever bothered either of us. No issues with battery life but generally my wife doesn't do super long rides. Couple hours tops.

    Civante Upgrades

Where are you finding batteries that work with Yamaha systems but aren't made by Yamaha? I didn't think that was actually possible.

    Communication options manufacturers

My wife and I have Sena R1s (not the evos). Well made and comfortable and the ability to chat the entire ride without having to be right next to each other is amazing. Range is pretty far, 1/4 mile or so. Aside from the ebike itself, probably her favorite cycling purchase ever. Only note...

Yamaha Cross Core RC ….new bike day and a great deal.

Also have a Yamaha-motored Giant, they make a great drive system. The current Yamaha bike line is a great value. 2k for the bike and extra battery is a steal! Lovely bike, enjoy it.

    $10,000.00?

Mainly its because they can. People look closely at the groupset a bike has when purchasing, but rarely subject the rest of the build to the same scrutiny. Pretty much every brands midrange bikes come with some name brand groupset that will feature heavily in the marketing materials and then a...

    Motorcycle style ebike

Legally, anything that can throttle above 20mph is not an ebike and will have the same legal requirements as any motorcycle. How strictly its enforced will vary depending on your location. If you're happy with a 20mph max throttle speed you can look for a moto-style class 2, though I think...

    $10,000.00?

Theres probably some conflation between what is traditionally called a luxury car (which are cars like Mercedes, BMW, etc which have a higher end build/interior and creature comforts beyond normal cars) and what I'd call status cars, which are cars people buy to show off/signal some sort of...

Turbo Creo 2 Comp E5 (aluminum) is out, is a Vado SL 2 next?

I do think there is some debate in the roadie world about where the various equivalences are between Sram and Shimano groups. Sram has 4 road groups, so people kinda assume they are equivalent to the top 4 groups of Shimano, but IMO Apex is about 105 level, Red is about Dura-ace level and...

Turbo Creo 2 Comp E5 (aluminum) is out, is a Vado SL 2 next?

I don't have direct experience with Apex but its well regarded. I ran first gen Sram Red on my road bike for many years and did like it a lot. Note that Srams lowest end is much more mid-range than Shimanos low end (I've seen Apex compared roughly to 105 in quality). The doubletap is different...

    $10,000.00?

I grew up in a (at the time) rural area. My dad was a pretty regular hunter so we always had guns around the house and I grew up shooting in the front yard. Still own several, though all I really do now is go out and shoot with friends sometimes when I'm home in PA. Its fun, but I have enough...

    $10,000.00?

Luxury item is a pretty loose term. I would argue that for most of the USA, a car is a necessity (Its very difficult to live without one due to how spread out things are and how unfriendly the infrastructure is in most places to anything but drivers). But that doesn't mean you need a "nice"...

    $10,000.00?

Thats why I said "generally". :) There are certainly people for whom bikes are utilitarian. I just suspect that of every 100 ebikes/normal bikes sold in the US, 99 go to people who ride mainly for fun and recreation (with some utility thrown in here and there). I bike commuted pretty...

    $10,000.00?

Bikes are (lets face it) generally luxury items. What people are willing to spend on them obviously varies wildly, but for some people dropping $10k+ on their hobby is no big deal. You don't even have to be rich, it just has to be something you're really into. Holds true about most hobbies...
