If you do any off road I recently went from Johnny Watts to Al Grounder and am in love with these tires. Super quiet and efficient on a paved path with some off road capabilities.

Soldering XT connectors is not recommended as a beginners task as it requires a lot of fast heat. I would buy ready made leads and crimp them in with Butt connectors

I've never had an issue just using grease. A pedal isn't subject to high temperatures or extreme pressures. I do treat my bicycle a little better than a rented mule so again. . . ymmv
