Winter riding on the Zen Photon.

I ran ISPs during the time I was winter riding with the Levo. They were very tenacious on ice but their narrower footprint simply didn't measure up in deep snow conditions like the 4.5 Wrathchilds on my Norco Bigfoot. 252 XL studs offer plenty of traction but it’s their concave shape that allows...

Woke up to powdery goodness this morning and -17C wind chill so snow stayed light and fluffy. Shoveled for 45 minutes then took this bad boy out for a spin around the block. More snow on the way so I may wait until tomorrow before hitting one of the local trails. 👍

These ones didn't seem to have a care in the world and were more likely interested in handouts from the tourists. The ones in Sai's hood in comparison are really skidish and bolt at the drop of a pin. Forgot to include the link to the footage of that ride.

Nov 5 – Nagano Highlands (Kamikochi) This was the second of two rides during a visit to Nagano Prefecture. Considered more of an out and back side trip, it focused primarily on the kaleidoscope of fall colors in the Kamikochi Highlands. To get to the visitor’s center we first had to run a...

Bike jobs that took WAY longer than you ever imagined

Check out the Feedback Ultralight stand too. I purchased a used one while in Japan and found it to be way lighter, more compact and user friendly than my old Park PCS 9.2. The rotating clamp on the Park stand ceases up constantly and the only way to release it is to place a bar in the clamp and...

New to Forum, garage storage suggestions?

Welcome. I have slat wall installed in my garage for hanging everything imaginable from cabinets to power tools, ladders to kayaks so it was natural to do the same with bikes. If I didn’t have the wall, I would likely opt for the Steadyrack which was featured in the video.

Tobishima Kaido (Cont.) Bridge #4 on the list is Toyohama the 9th largest truss bridge in Japan and the second largest in Hiroshima Prefecture. I’m thinking that I need some sort of data base to keep tabs on all of these spans. 🤔 Bridge #5 – Toyoshima A grand view looking over the coastal...

Day 3 - Tobishima Kaido (Bridge Crossings over the Akinada Islands) We might have saved the best for last of the inland sea crossings. Tobishima Kaido is the lesser-known route that takes riders through serene rural islands and unveils Japan’s untouched landscapes and local culture. Not as long...

Great trip report Randall and it looks like you folks had nice weather the whole time. Sister and BIL Dale just returned home from Down Under, NZ, and Melanesia/Fiji. Thanks again for checking in on me. Very kind of you. 👍

You should. It could be a good time to surprise the missus and provide ammo for you to acquire more bike goodies. We met my sister and her partner over there. It was their first time visiting Nihon and they were pretty much left to their own devices for an entire month. They managed perfectly...

I realize that I might have said this in another post but that is one beachin’ ride! Think you need to notify Specialized and advise them that Sunset Yellow should be added to their color chart.

My brother-in-law's fully restored vintage 1970 Honda CB450 K1. It took him the length of his marriage to get it to this final stage. As with all vehicles in Japan, motorcycles are also subject to mandatory inspections (Shaken) every two years ensuring that they are properly maintained and safe...

Thanks for the get-well thoughts, boys. Still coughing but feeling much better.🤭 @dodgeman – Absolutely love the land, the people, and the food every time I return. Then again, Red Deer is probably a lot like Kansas and we all know that there’s no place like home. @RabH - It's still tough to...

Thanks Dave. Not sure how if I can top that ride. The kindness, warmth and patience of family and friends there have left a permanent impression and I look forward to our next visit. Much appreciated Bill. The training rides over the summer really paid dividends but there’s so much more...

Shimanami Kaido (Part II) 5km up the road is bridge #5 – The Hakata-Oshima Bridge spanning 325 over Michika Island and additional 840 meters to Oshima. We leave this wonderful bridge and look at the massive structure from below. Looking back at the Hakata-Oshima bridge as we push on. A...

(Day 2) The Ride – Shimanami Kaido (The Sea Road) Despite the ominous forecast by one of the locals, we woke with the sun peeking through the clouds and felt assured that we would be in great shape. It looked to be a glorious day for a ride. Waiting for the ferry, we were the only people...

A nagging chest cold that I received at the tail end of our journey has sidelined me for the past week and a half and I haven’t fully recovered yet. Not a good way to end an epic trip but I think that it’s a small price to pay. I can’t ever recall submitting a report this late in the game but...

Appreciate the kind thoughts and concerns from folks here. The past month has certainly been a fond one to remember and was likely to blame for my absence. I see there’s a lot of catching up to do. Reconnecting and spending time with my wife’s family, relatives and friends I admit had me totally...

@Jeremy McCreary – Know how much you enjoy Lego so I thought about you when I spotted this display in Shizuoka City which touts itself as the plastic model capital of Japan.
