    Pinion Motor.Gearbox.Unit (MGU)

true in the abstract sense, of course you can provide 200w of leg power at 60rpm or at 90rpm. in reality, human performance is much more limited than that, and many people only do their best at a narrower range of cadence, especially over very long periods of time. a very long ride at low...

on my 1x bikes i ended up at 10-42, very similar. 11 speeds makes the steps about the same as your 10 speed 11-42, very workable. i’ve now gotten spoiled by the smaller steps on 2x bikes, but there really are very few 2x drivetrain e-bikes, for good reasons mostly. my e-road bike has the same...

Burned a phase wire in two in the rain

nice!! i’m not embarrassed to say that i’ve used chunks of wire from random places for low voltage hacks of all types :) the shrink is especially clean though, i feel like most of the stuff i have has a much smaller shrink ratio.

E-bike price increase due to new Tariffs ( non political thread) anyone hear how much?

country of origin for the batteries is almost certainly china, even if assembled into packs elsewhere.

i think the real advantage or need for closely spaced gears is when you’re trying to provide most of the power yourself for at least some of the ride. on my commuter i sometimes wish for more gears (it has a 4 speed IGH) but it’s not that big of a deal. on my road bike i have 11-15 in single...

Nice Feature on a Hub Drive

mostly because people don’t ride bikes slow enough downhill to really generate such a big surplus. most of the energy is still lost to air resistance. if you ride an e-bike up a really steep, long hill at 10mph using a couple hundred watts… and then turn around and come down, to regain most of...

that one’s not mine, although i was tempted to replace my commuter with it! it’s a spanish brand called desiknio.

    Pinion Motor.Gearbox.Unit (MGU)

slightly off topic from the integrated pinion mgu, but it would be really interesting to compare it to a super light pinion e-bike approach like this one : 2kg for the pinion, 1.2kg for the motor. 4kg for the integrated unit, plus whatever the rear hub weighs, so for only .9kg or so more you...

    Pinion Motor.Gearbox.Unit (MGU)

maybe it’s only noticeable on a lightweight, non-electric bike. most noticeable at lower pedaling efforts (say 100 watts) in 1-7 and especially 3 and 4. the only ones i’ve ridden have been belt drives, so maybe there’s that too.

does the pinion have that sort of cement grinder / dragging feel that a rohloff does in certain gears?

My New Globe Haul ST (2 weeks Old now)

the “electronic freewheeling” is an interesting concept! i do a lot of descending on almost all my utility rides and have always thought regen would be interesting despite generally not making sense for e-bikes.

Specialized Turbo Vado SL: An Incredible E-Bike (User Club)

rotor and pad life is really dependent on how much you descend, and how fast, more than anything. when I was doing 1500 meters of elevation on every other ride, with 40mph descents almost every day, my rotors reached the minimum thickness in perhaps 6 months and 3,000 miles. i bought my own...

Installing Jones H Bar on Turbo Vado SL 5 EQ?

I have a good friend - an avid cyclist - who swears by the jones H bar on hybrid geometry bikes. Being able to change positions over the course of a ride helps a lot, similar to drop bars with their hoods, drops, and tops. have you been doing similar length rides for a while? sometimes it just...

i think this came up before, but it’s worth nothing that most of the above provisions are illegal in the united states. a manufacture can’t require a paid service to continue honoring a warranty, and you don’t need a warranty card or to register, but you may need a receipt. interestingly the...
