Over50's Specialized Turbo Vado SL 5 EQ (& Como SL 5) Chronicles

I had incorrectly stated in a post above that the TCD had a mileage estimate. The figure reading '127' middle left is remaining battery percentage. When using the range extender, apparently it reads as 100+%. So I guess 127% of the 320 WH battery. Odd. I would have thought it would read as a %...

Pimp me your Specialized E ride

I've been shopping wheelsets (for Vado SL 5) but so far striking out. Can't get much help from LBS so I'm not getting very far. I was looking to an aluminum gravel or all-road wheelset from Industry 9 but they replied to an email today and doesn't look like they have anything compatible.

eBike reviews? Who do you believe?

I had never heard of Byways bike reviews so I pulled up the website: seems like they cover just about everything: "searching the byways for a wedding destination" is a recent article. I wonder how many e-bikes they've reviewed over they years and whether they've covered the full product...

Think your bike lock will work?

Hey so I'm not the only one. My local supermarket has a crappy bike rack. So I hook up to the gas meter. One day a store manager was passing and said "you know we have a bike rack over there"?

eBike reviews? Who do you believe?

What I read in the written review is that @Court thought it was one of the best bikes he has ever reviewed (not the best e-bike overall). What I recall from the video is that he said it is his favorite for 2020. I have the 5.0 and in my opinion it is a winner. To me, those bikes are...

    Bike Hijackings on the Rise

I started a thread about this awhile back based on an NYC article about strongarm robbery of e-bikes from delivery riders. And pursuant to some conversation with some folks I know regarding whether e-bikes, as they become more popular, will attract more than your standard lock-cutting thief (ie...

Over50's Specialized Turbo Vado SL 5 EQ (& Como SL 5) Chronicles

Found this Topeak Cageholder. Looks surprisingly like the range extender battery. So if you aren't carrying the range extender and don't need 2 water bottles then it is a good alternative for carrying a wrench set, a tube, tire levers, keys etc.

    Rotwild

Rotwild maybe? There has been some mention of it in a few threads. https://electricbikereview.com/forums/threads/best-bike-for-long-distance-touring.31869/page-4#post-283130

    Allant +7 Range Booster

I use the Bosch protector for the contacts. I would have no qualms about riding in the rain. I haven't had to since commuting is cancelled due to Covid. You can see the Bosch contact protector thingy in this photo if you zoom. This is the way I usually ride.

Help in choosing, Trek Alliant +8 or +9.9?

I paid $1100 for the whole setup. Obviously the extra battery is the lion share of that cost. I planned out and setup my bike for commuting pre-Covid and figured I would need the extra battery during colder weather or windy days. Since we went to work-from-home in March (and is looking like it...

Allant+ 7S & Other Treks with Integrated Batteries

It fits unless you have a water bottle mounted on the downtube (or dual battery setup).

It is for the bike. The contact pins are on the bike, not on the battery. I have several and use on my dual battery bikes.

Over50's Specialized Turbo Vado SL 5 EQ (& Como SL 5) Chronicles

Well it is a new bike with new batteries - can the range really be so good? I fully charged the bike plus the range extender battery for a ride today. I enabled the Mission Control setting to 'fully use the external battery first' (paraphrasing). At about 17 miles, when the 160 WH external...

Allant+ cobi bike app error 503

If you're looking for the magnet that is attached to a spoke on many bikes, I don't think the Allants have one. I think they are built into the brake rotor. Check @Court review: https://electricbikereview.com/trek/allant-plus-7/ Trek, Shimano, and Bosch probably worked together so that the...

Bosch Class III pedelecs cut out at 26.5 mph

Yes, I will confess I did chalk it up to the gear ratio of the Nuvinci hub. And then learned that @Ravi Kempaiah replaced the hub so I then chalked it up to gear ratio and/or defective hub. I did hear later that the Bosch software was probably tuned to the hub but it still seemed like a hub...

    Scratching sound from my Allant

That doesn't sound like the hub - at least not the same as the hub failure I had on the 9.9s. It really sounds like something rubbing. I like the tire/fender suggestion.

Over50's Specialized Turbo Vado SL 5 EQ (& Como SL 5) Chronicles

I did a little experimenting the last two days. Almost identical rides - one on my Vado SL and one on my Trek Allant. My commuting routine used to be a couple of times per week on a fast bike and a Friday (weather permitting) on a slow bike. The slow bike would be a Class 1 like my Tern GSD or a...

Bosch Class III pedelecs cut out at 26.5 mph

I went for a short 15 mile ride tonight on my Allant. I was really trying to pay attention to the behavior of the assist as I approached 28. It definitely does not cut out at 26 but I was working to get to 28 - particularly because the wind speed shown below was headwind (Tour mode). If the...
