Over50's Specialized Turbo Vado SL 5 EQ (& Como SL 5) Chronicles

I buy 30" jeans - I always describe it that way because once a bike shop measured me at 33" inseam - and I said "no way". I bought the M Vado SL. Standover height is perfect. Reach is a little on the short side if you ask my opinion.

    Bosch SmartphoneHub

Disappointing to hear. Before I swapped to Kiox, I don't recall having problems with Smartphone Hub sending my rides to Strava. It did so reliably. I can't recall how I had it pause rides however but it seemed that it did so. Initially, I posted that I was disappointed that Kiox wasn't set up...

Over50's Specialized Turbo Vado SL 5 EQ (& Como SL 5) Chronicles

I bought this bike as an alternative to my non-electric for fitness commuting - on those windless Friday's when time is not important and I can get home whenever I get home and not have to worry about getting up at 6am the next day. For that type of riding, on most days, I would not need the...

Is it just me or is nobody complaining about their Trek/Bosch ebikes?

Ha! That is what I would like to know! Well, technically the Specialized dealer does. But the dealer is horrible in terms of service. I've taken it in once, since purchase, for a software update. On the Vado SL, I think they have to drop the motor to do a software update. I got the bike back and...

    Where to lock my ebike?

Usually, I'm at least able to find a utility pole or a tree. At one local grocery store, I use their gas meter. I carry a thick yet flexible steel cable, in addition to a lock, in order to have the flexibility to lock to just about anything.. However there was this one time: at another local...

Is it just me or is nobody complaining about their Trek/Bosch ebikes?

1,200 miles and no issues apart from the common rear hub failure. Bike, as customized as it is, a joy to ride. For the ability to customize my motor output and get a workout, I really like my Specialized Vado SL 5.0. For overall ride quality, comfort and speed, the Allant 9.9s is the winner. My...

    Over50's Tern GSD Chronicles - Gen 1 and Gen 2 R14

I don't mind at all but I may not be able to give an exact answer because I don't have the receipt handy. I think I paid around $175 with labor. And you've reminded me that I need to call the LBS and perhaps request a partial refund. Because I was recently reminded via an email from Tern that...

    Over50's Tern GSD Chronicles - Gen 1 and Gen 2 R14

I posted in my Specialized Vado 5.0 SL EQ thread and my Allant 9.9s thread about some motor efficiency metrics. It seemed intuitive to me to think about Miles per WH as a motor efficiency metric (like if I had a battery of only 1WH, how far could I go?). I had two examples from rides on the...

Over50's Specialized Turbo Vado SL 5 EQ (& Como SL 5) Chronicles

Went on a 25 mile MUP ride today. Surface varied between gravel, dirt, pavement, crushed limestone. Again, I'm impressed at how these tires handle gravel. Best mixed-surface handling tires I've tried:

Over50's Specialized Turbo Vado SL 5 EQ (& Como SL 5) Chronicles

No. I didn't know about it until recently. I feel like Mission Control gives me what I need for the Vado SL. For Bosch/Kiox I'd prefer that the system calculate the WH Consumed and Avg Assist - maybe it does I just haven't found it yet.

    Over50's Trek Allant 9.9s Chronicles

A possible efficiency comparison using WH per Mile between Bosch and Mahle (Specialized Vado SL 5.0)? I suppose other bike characteristics like thinner tires on the Specialized vs heavier bike on the Trek might come into play? Full description here...

Over50's Specialized Turbo Vado SL 5 EQ (& Como SL 5) Chronicles

Some more musings on range: I felt I needed another observation in a high assist level. I only had one and that was riding at 87% average assist. So I headed off, in the interest of pseudo-science and rode 20+ miles with average assist of 127%. I reordered my data by average assist rather than...

Over50's Specialized Turbo Vado SL 5 EQ (& Como SL 5) Chronicles

Since there is another thread about Vado SL range, I put some range observations into a table. I don't list elevation since I'm a flatlander: Removing the two observations where I burned only 1 and 3 WH, practically using the bike without power, the average support level to range (inverse...

    Schwalbe's new tube? Aerothan

Yes costly - as expensive as some tires. There is Schwalbe's claim of better puncture protection and vibration dampening (emphasize claim) to consider (apart from just the weight). Part of the puncture protection claim is that when they do suffer a puncture they leak air slowly. I'd be willing...
