It’s working perfectly. I ended up with a piece of black, flat vacuum cleaner belt. Very robust material. Hasn’t even put a dent in it. The piece in the pic above was just to see if it would interfere with anything which it didn’t. Marc

You didn't read me right. My point was that having the right dealer made all the difference for you. If you had gone with a lesser dealer nothing would have been accomplished. Just to confirm, I removed the kickstand and took the bike over some cobblestones and its completely silent. The stand is in fact the culprit. It doesn't look like it would be too difficult to fix. The over-center spring inside that holds it open and closed doesn't have a whole lot of tension...
