Can city and state ordinances trump federal law?

This article sheds some light on why ebikes are currently illegal in NY State. It also talks about why NYC has made things so tough on ebikers. I suspect the proposed bills to make ebikes legal have are being held up by the interests in the Big Apple.

Good buy! I don't think you will be disapointed. I also have the reflectors coming. Color is called Titanium.

    After market Pedals

Ravi, those are some sweet pedals. I think for the price though, the Wellgos are hard to beat. I think I paid $36.00 for mine, and they really feel like a quality item. Should get into the 30's on Saturday, so I will be able to try them out along with the Selle saddle. This weather is killing me!!

Can city and state ordinances trump federal law?

Legislation has been proposed to bring NY State's laws concerning ebikes in line with the Federal law. It appears at some point it will make it through both branches of the legislature. On a practical level, I have no concerns about police stopping me because, my bike is not easily identified as...

    After market Pedals

I just received and installed the Wellgo MG-1 pedals in titanium. Unfortunately the temps have not risen above 20 degrees so no test ride yet. They appear very well made, lighter then the originals, larger as well. Hope to give them a workout this weekend.

It all boiled down to the IZIP Metro

Multiple ebikes, oh boy. I'm already looking at off road ebikes to compliment my Neo Carbon. Neo Jumper looks sweet, but the Haibike Xduro FS RX 2014 has really got my attention. I would love to get into trail riding and I think the only way to really do that is to get the right bike for the...

    Another Neo Carbon Lover

We should probably do a saddle thread in accessories the section. As soon as I get my Selle and have a chance to ride on it, I will do a post on it and a link to a video showing how to measure your sitbones. Maybe Ravi and others can comment on their findings as well.

Ravi Thanks, I actually adjusted the saddle to point slightly downwards because it was hitting my sensitive areas, and making things uncomfortable. It may be a tad too much downward, and I may re-adjust again. I shoud be getting my Selle Italia Max Flite by the end of the week, and I will need...

Are Americans savvy enough to discern the difference between high-tech and low-tech electric bikes?

Looking at it from a buyer's perspective, my own, it's not so hard to establish needs, then identify the bikes/companies that fill those needs. I love to bike, but at my age (61), the hills in my area just discourage me from doing as much as I would like. Now, I am in better then average shape...

Chris, Have you or do you know anyone who has tried the Badass dongle on the Bosch GenII motor?

    Haibike eQ Xduro Cross

Brambor, Am I missing something? Looks like two 15mm bolts and one quick connect cable on my Carbon and the wheel is ready to be pulled off. The wheel will definately be heavier, but other then that and the one cable disconnect, not too bad.

    Are ebikes dangerous?

I was passed by a Lycra wearing guy on a regular road bike yesterday. I was doing 18mph. He didn't seem to mind a bit, although I doubt he knew what I was riding.

LOCKS - All about Ebike locks !!

The Cricket bicycle alarm looks promising. It appears they have reached their goal on Indiegogo and are viable. I like the size and the capabilities. The big problem for me is, it is only Iphone compatible at the moment, they may make Android available in the future.

Are Americans savvy enough to discern the difference between high-tech and low-tech electric bikes?

I think some people are questioning those companies, and looking elsewhere. I looked very closely at a 7K ebike, and liked the motor technolgy and speed. I did some research and asked some questions to the company rep. It became apparent there was no pedal assist, no torque sensor, cadence...

    Another Neo Carbon Lover

Our roads here in my part of NY are not too bad. The Carbon is definately suited for smooth pavement, with occasional bumps. The front shock and carbon frame does help keep the ride fairly comfortable. I had not ridden an ebike before receiving my Carbon either. The thing that struck me the...

    Are ebikes dangerous?

Ebikes can be dangerous, just like any other moving vehicle. Its up to the rider to make sure the bike is operated safely. As ebikes become more prevalent, I do see more laws being introduced to control their use. That's unfortunate because those laws will probably be in response to riders who...

    Haibike eQ Xduro Cross

Eddie, nice job. There is just something about the look of that bike that just says "class". Love the color as well. Interesting that the crank drive makes noticably more noise then the hub drive. I didn't realize that was the case. Have a great time with the Haibike, please keep the reports coming.

Are Americans savvy enough to discern the difference between high-tech and low-tech electric bikes?

Brambor, and Oilerford, both you guys are absolutely correct. I especially agree with " the presence of a motor making it no longer a bike". Some of my biker friends are already accusing me of cheating, and havn't even seen the bike, and no nothing of the technolgy. They assume I want to "...
