    Replacement headlights

I wanted integrated lights - to me it's stupid to have to mount an externally-powered light on an e-bike. The problem is, however, oftentimes the motor controllers have underrated light outputs. On Bafang controllers, for example, they're typically 6V @ 500mA which is enough to light your...

Ultra 1000 stock fat tire rubbing on right chainstay

I agree - I think the 27.5" and 29" wheels are much more appropriate to this chain stay width. I wouldn't want to run anything with less than 5mm clearance on both sides.

Ultra 1000 stock fat tire rubbing on right chainstay

What's the info on the tire they have mounted on the rear? Can you post a photo of the sidewall showing the brand/model/dimensions, etc.? From the photos it looks like there's a couple of millimeters clearance available between the chain stays. It almost seems like they have a too large tire...

I demo'd a Specialized Vado and loved it, what other bikes should I try before spending $3K-$5K?

I researched commuter rigs pretty extensively before I pulled the trigger. I ended up getting a Biktrix Juggernaut Ultra 1000 with a 29" x 3" wheelset (which I mounted Maxxis Hookworms to). After some fairly simple tweaks I have a poor man's Riese & Müller Charger. Well, not really "poor...

    Juggernaut Ultra FS

If you're at all considering the rear rack and/or using it mostly for commuting I'd go with a hard tail - you'll save money and the bike will be lighter. Full suspension and rear racks don't mix well IMHO. And even if you're going to go off-road I'd still probably pass on full suspension...

    The Best EBike Tire(s)

I'm running Maxxis Hookworms on my 29" x 3" wheel set. The Hookworms are 29" x 2.5" and are a really great choice for commuter e-bikes I think. With thick tread and sidewalls they run really quiet and have low rolling resistance @ 60 PSI...

    First Ebike for committing

I bought the same bike about a month ago. I can't say I had the same problem you mentioned but I will say I had to adjust the disc brakes which were rubbing a bit. If you don't know how to do that check out the following video: In most cases you just need to true the calipers but make sure...

Jugernaut Ultra 1000 - Dutch commuter style w/ integrated lights

Excellent! I can't believe Bafang still hasn't rectified this problem on their end (by increasing the current rating of the outputs) but in the interim you can take advantage of the situation by marketing a differentiating feature. If you have your overseas manufacturer run an extra taillight...

Jugernaut Ultra 1000 - Dutch commuter style w/ integrated lights

The lighting circuit is simple - 2 parts. I think the market is probably limited for a "lighting kit" as capable hobbyists can just as easily build the circuit themselves. Makes more sense to integrate into the bike on the manufacturer side where it could be sold as a differentiating feature...

    Electric Bike Lights

The Busch + Müller IQ X E requires 7.5 watts and at 6V pulls about 1.25A (6V is typical controller voltage for headlights). You'll want to check the specs of your controller to see what the headlight output is rated for. I know for Bafang the headlight/taillight outputs are rated 6V @ 500mA -...

    Commuter / all around-er choice

A quality mid-drive system doesn't break chains if properly setup and properly used. For mid-drives, make sure there are motor inhibitors on the brakes and, ideally, the gear shifter when purchasing. Upon delivery, ensure the bike is setup correctly (i.e. derailleur alignment, lubed chain...

    Commuter / all around-er choice

If you're willing to look at Bafang mid-drives you have numerous options which are easy to setup in "commuter mode" with minor tweaks. Here's my setup: https://electricbikereview.com/forum/threads/jugernaut-ultra-1000-dutch-commuter-style-w-integrated-lights.29178/

Biktrix Juggernaut Rear Rack/Trunk Bag Recommendations

Love my Arkel trunk bag/panniers. I went for their TailRider trunk bag and a pair of The Shopper. The Shopper is great because when not in use it collapses down to a very thin profile and when it is in use it holds a lot of stuff. Great bags.

Jugernaut Ultra 1000 - Dutch commuter style w/ integrated lights

Just finished re-configuring my new Jugernaut Ultra 1000 in "commuter mode" complete with integrated 48V front and rear lighting! Before I get to the integrated lights (because that's it's own story) here are the changes I made to the stock configuration: Busch + Müller IQ X E headlight (150...

    DPC-18 controller wiring lights

The answer to that is no. The Bafang lighting outputs are rated 6V @ 500mA. Is it enough to run very basic, not particularly bright lights? Barely. Can you run brighter lights with it? Maybe? You'll certainly pull more than 500mA...caveat emptor. I'm currently implementing a solution on...
