    Article on Progressive's quarterly newsletter

Electric bikes have gotten some mainstream exposure in today's quarterly newsletter sent out by Progressive, the insurance company. See the link here: http://www.progressive.com/AtProgressive/Reinventing-the-bike-wheel.aspx

"Are you crazy?? The drivers around here are going to run you over!"

I wish that my route included more options for bike trails. We have some here in the Lowcountry, but none of them along the 20-mile commute I'll be biking starting tomorrow. I took a dry run today, and ran into no issues. Battery ran out at about 42 miles, which was about a mile short of home...

Local Dealer vs. A Great Deal

I wish more people had the choice of whether to buy local or not. I was looking at a 4.5-hour (one direction) or 11-hour drive (another direction) each way to buy from a dealer. It was a no-brainer to pick my bike first and then choose where to get it from rather than limit myself to the models...

    What's Your Dream Electric Bike?

I'd be careful with this. Tim from PracticalCycle.com pointed out that many of these use the hub bolt on the back tire, which has less threaded space available because of the motor, and so may not work with a conventional trailer. Sadly, he also thinks the Burley Travoy may also not work due to...

Unboxing and assembling my 2014 Pedego City Commuter

On January 26, 2014, after a couple of email communications with Tim of PracticalCycle.com, I was finally ready to commit to a decision I had been contemplating for almost 5 years. I had already commuted from my home in Summerville, SC, to my job in North Charleston, SC, over the summer of 2011...

Slime, Thorn Resistant Tires and Airless Bicycle Tubes?

I'd LOVE to find a linear tube in the 700 x 35-43 size. Google didn't help me find any. Anyone here know where to find them, assuming they exist?

"Are you crazy?? The drivers around here are going to run you over!"

How do YOU deal with the frequent nay-sayers who think that commuting to work by bike is a really bad idea?

    Pedego City Commuter or Alternative

I got my two twelve-year-old sons to help me set it up. They were the ones who finally figured out how to get the latch open on the handlebars to make the adjustments. I will be swinging by the local bike shop on Saturday morning, though, to see if they can get the handlebars on a smidgen more...

    Pedego City Commuter or Alternative

I took photos when I unboxed and assembled the bike. I'll be posting my experience this weekend when I have a bit more time.

Pedego Interceptor 2 - Any alternatives?

Ray, I just got my City Commuter yesterday, and will be posting my experience with unboxing and assembling it shortly, and will continue to post my ongoing impression of it as I start to use it. The twenty minutes I got to spend with it yesterday after finishing assembly was a blast!

    Pedego City Commuter or Alternative

Delivery scheduled for mid-day tomorrow! I can't remember the time I was as excited about getting a delivery as this!

LOCKS - All about Ebike locks !!

I'm going to wait to see how much room are in the panniers that came (free) with my bike. I may not need the trailer at the outset. Considering I save $6 every 20 miles I ride (based on the calculations I posted in another thread), I have to ride only 866 miles before I can afford the Burley...

LOCKS - All about Ebike locks !!

I'll add that Tim from Practical Cycle pointed out that not all trailers will work with electric bikes (or at least with the Pedego Step-through City Commuter) because they attach to the hub bolt on the back tire, and with the additional motor parts already attached, there sometimes aren't...

Lighting recommendation: NiteRider 700 USB Rechargeable

I just received my NiteRider 700 USB Rechargeable bicycle light. I turned it on to see how bright it is, because I had no idea what 700 lumens looks like, and WOW! was I amazed! That thing is a friggin' spotlight! As my bike is still en route from California, I haven't had a chance to use it...

    Thudbuster Suspension Seat Post

PracticalCycle.come told me that the Thudbuster is $195.00! I had planned to get one until I found that out. With the outlay on my City Commuter (which is en route to me as I write this!!), I'm gonna have to reap some of those fuel cost savings before I can spend that kind of cash on something...

    Specs and Upgradeability

I would add (or, more accurately, reiterate what Court said) that range and power are only two factors to consider. For example, my wrist issues factored heavily into my decision to go with a cruiser style bike, and my shorter height of 5'7" pushed me toward a bike with a step-through (girl's)...

How Do You Best Use Electric Power?

I like your response for the naysayers who tell me how dangerous it is biking around here. (The Lowcountry isn't known for being bike-friendly... and, in fact, a local doctor was killed a few years ago by being knocked off of a bridge and into the pluff mud). I'll point out that I'm doing my...

    Pedego City Commuter or Alternative

No local dealers. This is all sight-unseen, which is why this resource (and others online) were so valuable. I had originally planned on the Interceptor II until Court suggested the City Commuter based on my anticipated usage and my stature.
