Went on a little spending spree

Remember that you can take the battery off for about an 8lb reduction, though that will expose the battery track connectors to road grit.

Bigger wheels better on rough terrain?

I mostly ride urban pavement but it is baaaad pavement. The fatty tires with front suspension have been a pleasant surprise at how they make potholes, asphalt gullies, beer bottles, sewer grates, light rail tracks, off leash dogs, etc. just go away. And it is really nice being able to hop a curb...

    PAS Levels, torque vs speed?

It works a bit differently. Geared hub motors have their torque mostly available throughout their range, and lots of speed and torque at the low end of power application. From a stop they accelerate very well. But they reach a speed ceiling in the mid-high twenties (mph) where a direct drive hub...

    Hello, my PAS stopped working

Check your cadence sensor. Assuming hub drive, look for a magnetic sensor that detects movement of the chain ring. Before that, check for any loose connections in the wiring harness, maybe a data signal isn't getting through.

Radrover Controller & Display Upgrade Kit

What max powered speed do you have programmed? I never see this behavior, but I have my max powered speed set to a value I will never reach (I hope). Maybe it happens when you exceed the powered speed number?

Moving from two wheels to a trike (reposted to Trikes/other)

There's a trike forum here where emojo's are referenced (use the search box upper left). Posting your question there might find someone who knows how to tweak your bike: https://electricbikereview.com/forums/forum/other/

Wanting to upgrade my existing Ebike and need help

Hard pass. I don't want my bike affected by AWS and router glitches, and I sure as f*ck don't want forced upgrades (oh, you want to go now? Upgrade is 20% installed, stand by for reboot in 30 minutes) Had an android phone pull this on me right when I needed to use it. Not to mention the...

Wanting to upgrade my existing Ebike and need help

I dismount and lock up my bike outdoors at least six hundred times a year. There is no way I can do that and not at least once a year forget to remove my phone, and I doubt anyone else could either. So far I have at least once forgotten to turn off the battery via key.

Radrover Controller & Display Upgrade Kit

Your battery cells have a sweet spot zone of voltages. Going above or below that voltage zone will damage the cells reducing their longevity, and even risks causing a permanently unchargeable battery (sometimes this can be repaired). The battery itself has a battery management system (BMS) that...

Radrover Controller & Display Upgrade Kit

Bolton recommends a cutoff voltage of 40.0 volts, which is what I use. I discharged the battery below that point once to see what would happen. After about 5 minutes of seeing 39.something apparent voltage the Bolton controller shut off the motor, but not the lights or the display. Pedalling...

Bike lock for a city that's not very bike friendly

My usual recommendation is a chain lock AND a U-lock, and expect to spend 8-10% of the replacement value of your bike. Two locks because opportunistic thieves usually carry tools to break one or the other, but not both. You don't have to be the most secure bike out there, just more secure than...

    Big name bikes and Bafang

So what do you think of 58v battery packs. Didn't know they are a thing, but a buddy just installed one and now he's trash talking acceleration vs my bike. Not tempted.

    My electric bike problem pls

Is this solely on pedal assist (PAS) or are you using throttle? Some bikes are or can be configured for weird throttle settings where throttle works only if you're pedaling, or the throttle is active only if the bike is already moving (eg. over 6kph).

    Cruising speed

Regular cruising speed in still air on 200w PAS is 17-18 mph, rear hub drive fatty bike, mostly in a striped but unprotected bike lane. At that speed my legs are getting some noticeable workout, but I'm not sweating (ick in winter clothing).

    Forum Features: Your Opinion Wanted!

When composing a post, if you change your mind about posting, there's no easy way to back out of posting. If you leave the page and then return to that forum, your draft post is always there (this is a good feature). But the only way to discard the draft appears to be to delete every character...

    SuperWheel - No battery needed

Looks like a perpetual motion machine. I note that they give zero data about any real world performance measured. It wouldn't be hard to mount this on a mid-drive electric, apply 200w for 5 minutes and report on any speed or distance differences.

    Help me build a bike!

I wouldn't do that speed without wearing motorcycle leathers and a snell rated helmet. Too fucking fast, you can't react quickly enough to situational changes out of your control. Unrealistic given today's battery tech, unless you want to put two *good* batteries on your bike. I get about 25...

scooter not charging to full after blowing up charging port. im at a loss why.. can i use the controller port as charging port with a splitter?

Stuff like this is why I try to dissuade folks from poking around in a high voltage high amperage battery pack unless they know what they're doing. If you're using your stock multimeter leads with 2 cm of bare metal at the tips and have not yet taped them up to expose only 1 or 2 mm of metal...

    Battery

Does your bike have a USB port for charging peripherals? On mine the lights and controller shut off after 4 minutes of inactivity, but the USB port appears to remain active as long as the battery key switch is in the ON position. 45 minutes of charging a phone so far after lights and controller...

Fatbike Tires Compared to Not So Fatbike Tires

I get that too when I wash the (fatty) bike. Eyes glom on to the clean knobbly front tire and then the inevitable question, how fast can that bike go?
