    Price Increases?

I wonder if dealers mark up on-hand stock purchased at old prices as soon as manufacturers release the price increase.

    Lightweight AND affordable eBikes

The Orbea website is certainly . . . special. Heavy on marketing cuteness, but light on facts. I couldn't stand watching the videos. The 20" wheeled bike with the large, stout basket looked nice. The website and video? A little heavy on 'urban hipster'.

    Price Increases?

Would be interesting to know how, from a tariff perspective, they decide an item's country of origin. And yes, it's tough to find anything made in the USA. A friend from China was visiting and he wanted to find US made items to bring back to China. Since he is a tight wad, I took him to...

    Price Increases?

Has anyone else noticed recent price increases? I went on the Riese and Mueller website yesterday and saw that my bike has gone up from ~4400 to ~4800. Glad I bought it a few months ago. I thought the tariffs applied to Chinese bikes and parts? I may be wrong, but I don't think R&M has many...

    EBike Shaming

I would definitely suggest avoiding serious road bike oriented rides - the kind with lots of lycra jerseys covered with advertising. The vibe in road biking groups can be on the snarky side. I recall 30 years ago showing up to one such group on a heavy mountain bike and receiving the same...

Creating a new transportation infrastructures for bicycle commuting

Been to The Netherlands and have seen this. It's good. But it won't happen in our old residential neighborhoods where the bikeways are. Those Dutch cyclists have zero patience for clueless pedestrians (tourists) that walk on the bike path. That wouldn't work to well here either :-).

"Riders of ebikes AND regular bikes--I have some questions for you!"

Totally agree that spending big bucks on a bike does not guarantee a decent bike. I bought an eye wateringly expensive custom made randonneuring style bicycle and although it looks great and has great build quality, a friend purchased a second hand off the shelf framed bike for the same purpose...

Creating a new transportation infrastructures for bicycle commuting

Portland could vastly improve their urban bikeways by eliminating all the uncontrolled intersections (those with NO stop signs). Even the controlled ones are a problem because cars AND bikes don't stop or slow for stop signs. I stopped using one bike route because there were far too many...

Who Knew? Switching tires adds 10% range on batteries!

@Alaskan- were the Marathon Supremes narrower that the stock tires and was there a degradation in shock absorption?

A maintenance free ebike design could be in the horizon.

It's pretty uncommon, but it does happen sometimes when riding off road or if the derailleur isn't adjusted correctly. For commuting, I agree that derailleur and gears is pretty bullet proof and efficient.

    Lightweight AND affordable eBikes

Don't forget Faraday bikes. They are only around 40lbs without any baskets. For a bike < $3500, that's pretty good.

    Lightweight AND affordable eBikes

I agree that although an e-bike motor might compensate for heavy weight, having a lighter bike is a good thing. I recently purchased a Riese and Muller Roadster because of the lighter weight (~47 lbs). Granted, this is not a bike with a discount price, but it is their least expensive model. I...

    Small wheel compact cargo e-bikes

Small wheels usually makes for a smaller footprint which in my mind is a good thing. Parking / moving / storing a full sized cargo bike is no easy thing. Just make sure 20" you're OK with any 20" wheeled choice as small wheels plus stiff aluminum frame can make for a jarring ride. Has anyone...

How much has your ebike replaced your car?

Cold and rainy, wildfires? Sounds like where I live - Portland. I know we're not supposed to exert ourselves when the air quality is bad, but I biked and it wasn't bad.

How much has your ebike replaced your car?

We had a lot of highway closures this summer which pushed me to the e-bike almost every day. As I get older and the traffic gets slower, I'm loosing patience with driving. I had been using the conventional, unpowered bike, but at 60, it leaves me a bit tired and sweaty. Since switching to...

Where E-bikes are Made, and Why it's Important

The question at hand is not 'Do certain countries make some poor quality products?' or 'Do they ever engage in any unethical business practices?'. It is 'Are they capable of manufacturing to a high standard of quality at a low price point?'. It is my belief, based on first hand experiences...

Report on long term use of 2 e bikes

Do cars see you on the trike? My fear with those, and even some recumbents, is that they would be even more invisible to cars than an upright bike. How is visibility (your visibility of others) on the low bikes? I also have a Bafang BBS-HD and have been riding it for several years without any...

Anyone riding on a Brooks saddle?

I thought the highest intelligence award went to Ashkenazi jews. And I am neither Dutch nor Jewish and of entirely average intelligence. A couple of things to keep in mind about following cycling advice from those in The Netherlands. Firstly, they cycle for transportation and for the most...

    Beware the Bicycle Lane

It is prudent to exercise extreme caution when passing cars on the right in a bike lane or on a shoulder. Cars have a blind spot and don't expect to be overtaken on the right by cyclist. I say this as an experience bike commuter and occasional car driver. I have been hit by cars twice in 50...

    NUVINCI N380, REVIEW AND QUESTIONS

The NuVinci 380 with a belt drive seems nice in theory, but I tried several bikes with it and found it heavy and it just didn't feel as good as derailleur equipped bike. Having ridden bikes my entire life, using a derailleur is second nature. There's a bit of maintenance, but the most...
