Rohloff Speed hubs on E-bikes (Mechanical and E-14) - Discussion

Am I correct in interpreting this to mean that any Rohloff oil leak does not matter beyond the increased noise from oil loss and the impact on the immediate area from leaked oil? You could tilt the bike to accelerate the leak, catch the oil, and protect or cleanup the bike parts affected by the...

    Anyone with a 2020 Revolt E Pro?

There isnt a 500wH upgrade option, only the range extender. Here in the US (at least in CA), the extenders are expected early May. Think they are working on firmware. Should be ~$600USD for everything. Réjeanne, mind posting approx. dimensions of the extender L×W×H? I have a frame bag, but...

    Battery Charge Indicator Levels?

Health. What capacity does it charge to? How many cycles are on the battery? Etc. Thanks all. I have a multimeter but don't need to know that information. I seem to remember the battery indicator lights (on the Energypak 500) have a sequence to indicate the cycles on the battery and capacity.

    Battery Charge Indicator Levels?

Unfortunately no. It's the 2017 version and does not have that connectivity.

    Battery Charge Indicator Levels?

Does anyone have any manuals or documentation showing how to determine the battery health? I seem to remember holding down the battery charge indicator button then using the red indicators. I remember someone mentioning it here so it's probably a thread floating around. My bike currently shows...

2020 Giant E-Bike Models and Photos

I'm pretty excited for Revolt E+. I think it solves a couple issues I've had including chain retention and tire width on the Road E+ and figure, as battery capacity improves you can add bigger and bigger extensions. I saw that the 250Wh extension was ~$400 overseas. Put a 180mm rotor on the...

What new light weight e-bikes are on the horizon?

The Miller has 2 options: one with 1 gear, and one with 3 gears (internally geared hub). An internally geared hub has all of the gears inside of the rear wheel and you shift with a grip shifter. If you plan on riding the bike much in the Santa Cruz hills, it won't have a really low gear (for...

    Anybody Rotate Their Tires?

Tradition is to rotate the old front to the back when you replace an old rear tire. Idea being you want your front wheel/tire to have the best traction because it is for steering. Like indianajo there aren't any particular wear patterns I've noticed with tires other than the rear wearing 2x as...

    My Commuter-Giant Road-E+ 1

post new motor cont.: at 748 mi. the bike was skipping in 12T, 13T and 14T but most evident in 13T. i reasoned it was the cassette and added an Ultegra cassette. at 790mi. i flatted the front tire with a screw. the front tire has a lot of small cuts in it. at 863mi. i replaced the rear brake...

    GMAC Motor and Pinion Gearbox

The torque figure was still high if I recall, 100nm? I like carbon because it can be built to be light, but it's not necessary. I am not what they call a 'weight weenie' by traditional bike standards, but handling a 60lb.+ bike on a train and up 3 flights of stairs multiple times a day gets...

    GMAC Motor and Pinion Gearbox

This is beatiful...but that GO Swissdrive! How is it being supported, if at all?

    GMAC Motor and Pinion Gearbox

I definitely don't want a low powered motor. Certainly high torque given where I am with lots of hills and how much I weigh. Couldn't it be a cadence/speed sensor? Grin offers one that would work on the crank spider, but this one would have to be custom fab'ed. Not ideal, but sounds like you...

    GMAC Motor and Pinion Gearbox

Has anyone worked with either the GMAC or a Pinion drive to make a project e-bike? I would love a low maintenance, long-distance, efficient commuter built as light as reasonably possible. Parts availability and reliability from Bafang are a concern to me so I'd rather stay away from them...

Video: Gary Fisher on Why eBikes are the Next Big Thing!

Gary is a cool guy thanks for sharing. I thought it interesting he mentioned the Marin city meeting with an older crowd that advocated for e-mountain bikes. It's sort of a tailwind (pun fully intended) for e-bikes that the initial users, as best I can tell, usually are older who may also be...

What new light weight e-bikes are on the horizon?

You may consider BMC and their Alpenchallenge line. The bike here is very light with a carbon frame and fork. Expensive because the components are high-end. BMC is a well-known bike manufacturer. My only concern would be that it's not a stepover which women tend to prefer. Worthy of a test ride...

What new light weight e-bikes are on the horizon?

So far I gathered: Flat bars Semi-Lightweight (40-60 lbs?) to Lightweight (25-40lbs?) 40+mi. range Class 1 <$9k Any other characteristics you looking for? Lightweight to carry? I would be inclined to point towards bikes with a Fazua motor. Doing lots of hills? Noticed you are in Santa Cruz...
