Specialized Turbo Vado SL: An Incredible E-Bike (User Club)

Vado/Creo/Levo SL folks, how do you shift? I've swapped my Vado for a Vado SL and unless I stop pedalling for a while (2 sec) before I shift, the motor kicks in immediately as I pedal and grinds the chain and sprockets. With my non-SL Vado, I was able to pause briefly (0.5s), shift, then start...

An easy and expensive mistake: Vado Battery Related

Go ahead and measure it. I measure zero on two of mine, on or off. It would be silly to expose the pack voltage without a charger connected. In the other thread where a staple shorted out the contacts out when a charger was plugged in, a resettable fuse would have prevented the pack from being...

An easy and expensive mistake: Vado Battery Related

If the user was able to short out the battery with a key, it's defective. The battery does not expose it's pack voltage unless 5v is applied to one of the smaller pins by the charger. If anyone has a multimeter, measure the voltage at the two large pins. Whether or not the pack is on or off, it...

    Disc Brakes and Pads

That's expected. When braking, the front tires have more grip so they should be used more than the rear ones for safety. The Vado is indeed a very heavy bike and requires a lot of braking force. With the electric assist, it may be easy to accelerate, but the brakes will wear out quickly...

Specialized Turbo Vado/Como/Tero/Tero X User Club

It should be very straightforward. You'll need a 160mm to 203mm brake adapter like this one if you're going with Shimano brakes: https://www.jensonusa.com/Shimano-F203PP-Disc-Brake-Adapter The Shimano RT66 203mm rotor or even Ice Tech rotors would work well. One concern would be whether the...

    Vado 5.0 - 45 months ownership - approximately 23,000+ miles

It's a third party app called BLEvo. Available for iOS as well: https://apps.apple.com/us/app/blevo-for-smart-turbo-levo/id1293644903 You'll need the TCD-W, since the original BLOKS display doesn't support Specialized's Mission Control app.

    Vado 5.0 - 45 months ownership - approximately 23,000+ miles

Thanks for the info Kam! Do you mind checking if the rear wheel size in the BLEvo can be lowered? I'm not sure if that's been blocked in the most recent firmware. Edit: Since Kam's TCU version is 5.019, I believe the max speed limit can be increased, as per this thread...

Mission Control App - Turbo Vado Solution Now Available

On the Specialized website, it's listed at $80: https://www.specialized.com/us/en/turbo-connect-display/p/159237 Perhaps the cables and mount cost more?

How does it perform under direct sunlight? I wonder if it's compatible with the BLEvo app:

    Satiator Charger with Specialized?

Haha should have known that. That's a neat solution. What are you using to control the power? An IOT power outlet?

    Satiator Charger with Specialized?

Unfortunately that means there is some communication between the battery and the charger. Unless the Satiator can emulate the authentication signals (CAN probably), it won't work, as stated in Satiator's website. What I do to extend the battery life is to unplug the charger around 70-80% of...

    Satiator Charger with Specialized?

Try putting tape over the small low voltage contacts on the Rosenberger charger cable and see if charging still works.

Mission Control App - Turbo Vado Solution Now Available

Thanks for the update. Do you have any photos of the display? I don't think there are many reviews of the unit yet. How's the backlight? Did anyone try the bluetooth hack to make the wheel size smaller to override the speed limit?

    Vado 3.0 vs Como 3.0 ?

Same drive train, including chainring, derailleur, cassette, motor, and brakes. The battery is the same form factor, but the Como has a larger capacity at 504 vs. 460Wh. In terms of reliability, the two should be similar, as the troublesome electronics and drivetrain components are the same.

    42t versus 48t Vado 3.0

There are four chaingring bolts, and original or third party chainrings are hollow so that you can replace it without removing the crank.

    42t versus 48t Vado 3.0

The Vado 3 40T and 5/6 48T chainrings have threads in them for the chainring bolt, so you don't have to get additional chainring bolt-nut sets. Specialized sells the 48T chainring for about $50, but I got a Deckas 52T chainring on ebay for half the price, but had to get the chainring bolt-nut...

Spare screen for Bloks.Display 22LCD? Turbo Vado 3.0

You're right, it'll be quite hard to find a replacement. This is a custom display by Bloks, not a generic LCD screen.
