ShareRoller - Quick and Dirty Electric Bikes

As mentioned above, they said Mid-March back in December. Since then I have not heard anything. Unlike some other crowd-funding campaigns I have been involved with, they do not seem to regularly keep their supporters up to date as the process unfolds. I can only hope this is because they are so...

    eBike as Car Replacement ?

IN a general sense, any wheeled vehicle can be an alternative to a car under the right circumstances....as can a pair of shoes :) To narrow it down, some of the questions mentioned previously are helpful, and maybe these: Do you need to carry it up stairs? Can you charge at work? Do you want to...

    Petite looking for car replacement

Even though 60 miles is probably unrealistic with most ebikes, you can always purchase a second battery and carry it along with you on longer rides. I do that occasionally on my Magnum Ui5 and therefore am able to cover 60 miles when I want to.

What next? How about an electric surfboard?

I don't know....but I think surfers wax their boards, so there still is some maintenance. As for what I look like, I am at the point in life where I do not have to impress others, they have to impress me :)

What next? How about an electric surfboard?

If an electric bike is not enough, how about a jet powered electric surfboard? No waves required. http://www.eetimes.com/author.asp?section_id=216&doc_id=1331431 That is a selfie stick, not a tow bar! And here is someone going upstream in a river: The company's website is...

Wish EBR would focus more on "Folding" the folding electric bikes...

I saw a more thorough discussion of just this feature on the recent Tern Vektron video review. It looks like that folder makes it very easy to "walk" the bike when it is folded, and even allows you to use a "walk" feature on the control while the ebike is folded to turn on the motor at low speed...

    First E-Bike Advice Please.

Yes, a mid-drive with a wide range of gears should also mean that 250 watts is enough for your needs. A very fit racer can put out 1-200 watts steadily with peaks up to 500 watts. A nominal 250 watt mid drive motor would have a peak output of about 500 watts also. So basically, an electric bike...

    First E-Bike Advice Please.

You might consider either a fat tire bike or a suspension seatpost like a thudbuster or bodyfloat, or even both, instead of a full suspension ebike. With the kind of use you are describing, a full suspension may be overkill and does generally add to the overall weight (and price) of the bike...

    Bikes for really deep snow

I guess cross country skiing is still the way to go for peace and quiet in the winter woods :)

    Bikes for really deep snow

I just saw this article about snow bikes: http://www.digitaltrends.com/outdoors/snow-bike-winter-xgames/ They look like they would be a blast in really deep snow. I wish there was an electric version, although I also found this prototype of an electric snow bike: (Link Removed - No Longer...

Trying to chose between a Rad City and Rad Rover

Most analysis of regenerative systems on ebikes suggest they recover a very small amount of energy. Estimates are that they recover only about 10-15% of the energy that is theoretically available from slowing the bike down. And of course they only work at all when the bike is slowing or stopping...

    Pedal suggestion?

I pre-ordered some magnetic pedals on Kickstarter. They seem like they could be a nice compromise between platform pedals and pedals that you mechanically clip into. But they do require special bike shoes so that you can mount the included flat metal plates the magnets attach to. I will report...

My new Magnum Ui5 : first impressions

The throttle works fine. The only limitation is that the throttle will only apply as much power as the level of assist that you set. So if you are in level 1, the throttle would be pretty weak. If you are in the top level of 6, then the throttle is very strong and uses the entire power and...

    Looking for extended Range

Instead of buying a new bike, you could just get a spare battery, especially if you are happy with the Raleigh in all other respects. I sometimes take the battery off of my wife's identical Magnum Ui5 and carry it with me so that I can ride 50-60 miles at a time. And then when I do not need the...

"Efficiency" of Brose mid-drive vs hub

Clearly electric motors are more efficient at higher RPMs, but that is just one factor in the entire system of a bike and rider. But to illustrate the point, any hub drive is 0% efficient when it bogs down and comes to a stop on a steep hill. All that current going to the motor is having zero...

Falco eDrive: the e-bike system that doubles as an indoor trainer

I have seen the 100 mile range figure reported on the internet for this system (http://www.treehugger.com/bikes/falco-edrive-bike.html ). I sincerely doubt that anyone is seeing actual numbers like that with a 400 wh battery. Until Falco provides some actual documentation that shows their system...

    Best no hassle commuter ebike?

This is a unique take on a low maintenance commuter bike: (Link Removed - No Longer Exists) The folding feature makes it easier to take the bike inside with you for theft protection, and it does roll when folded. I am not sure you will be able to find everything you want in a bike with...

    Best no hassle commuter ebike?

Good point as any bike will need some maintenance. But that said, there are also big differences in how much maintenance different bikes require. No one has mentioned it yet, but a belt drive is typically cleaner and easier to maintain than a chain drive. Internal gears if they are set up...

    Regen on EBikes

Of course another option is to get an ebike with two or three chainrings in the front, and let your legs give you the added range. Then you can save your battery for the really big hills.
