As I understand it, most cadence sensors "push" the same amount no matter how fast or slow you pedal. It is usually just a simple on/off switch that turns on whenever the pedals are moving and off when they stop moving. The level of "push" or assist would depend on the settings you have...

Can't say for sure, but I think that cable in the last pic is going to the battery, which appears to be mounted to the upper frame tube. It also looks like there is a pedal assist cadence sensor mounted on the bike with a wire going to that also.

I sometimes dream about a extremely low maintenance ebike with mid drive, Gates belt drive, Nuvinci hub, mag wheels, flat free tires ( http://www.tannus.com/ ). Raleigh even once offered self-adjusting brakes!
This seems like it could be a lot of fun....but I would definitely want full suspension for downhill runs:

And even the standard model is only 6 pounds. That is ridiculously light for battery, motor, controls, etc. This will make it easy to add electric power to a bike without a huge weight penalty.
