Best, easiest, cheapest way to get rid of regen on a Radcity 4

If I remember correctly, the motor cuts out at 20mph (32kph) under the stock setting. You can modify this via the lcd screen and mode + up/down arrows to around 25mph (40kph). In the following hypothetical example: If you are pedaling downhill and the motor is supplying 80% of the effort and...

    Rad Rover battery issue

When you get the voltmeter, you can test the battery output voltage thru the output contacts. I think that style battery uses slide contacts to mate with the bike mount. Turn the key switch to the RUN/ON position and measure the battery voltage across the contacts. That is how I measure my...

    Rad Rover battery issue

I believe that battery is for a 2015-2017 version Rover, per the Rad website for legacy parts. I don’t believe the new battery fits that battery mount.

    Rad City 4 torque

Keep in mind that rider weight also factors into the acceleration equation. I believe Al weighs in approx. 315# and Stefi at 150#. I weigh 155# and my 2019 City ST accelerates plenty well for my usage. Also, Stefi is in Canada and their ebikes are limited to 500 watts. The US version is...

    Rad City 4 torque

Hi Stefi - Can you provide us with an update on your assembly and riding experience? Has the bike met or exceeded your expectations? Just looking for some feedback after all the questions and answers exchanged here. Enjoy your ride! - RangerDave

I weigh 155# and try to keep mine at 45-50 psi for city street riding.

    Rad City assembly and maintenance

Watch the Rad/YouTube assembly video for the City a few times to familiarize yourself with the process. It is short, if I remember correctly: Attach handlebars Assemble and insert front wheel skewer thru axel Remove fork shipping platform and lift front of bike, slide wheel into fork slots and...

    Rad City 4 torque

I think he was referring to the Rover and (new) Wagon models as both having geared hub motors currently on the Rad website when replying to my YouTube comparison video. At least that is how I took the comment. RangerDave

    Rad City 4 torque

The newer model Wagon comes with a geared hub motor. The older models came with the direct drive motor. The linked video is with the older DD motor. Unless you have substantial hills to climb, I think you’ll be very happy with the City you have in hand. It will provide you with many miles of...

    Rad City 4 torque

Here is a YouTube video showing the comparison of the Rover vs. Wagon (geared motor vs direct drive). The last 15 seconds or so shows a head to head race between the two bikes. You can draw your own conclusions as to acceleration and speed. Good luck! - RangerDave

Best, easiest, cheapest way to get rid of regen on a Radcity 4

From my experience with a 2019 City ST, the issue of drag due to the direct drive motor is negligible. Yes, there is a very small amount of drag when coasting, but how much time do you actually spend doing that? I find I only coast when I want to bleed off speed to come to a stop. The bonus...

    1000 mile RadCity review

Regarding the rear brake adjustment, you need to buy or make one of these (Allen wrench nub tool): https://radpaul.weebly.com/rad-e-bike-brake-adjuster-tool.html It makes a 15 minute PITA job into a 10 second simple task. I have a lot of stop and go riding where I live also. I set the pads...

2 New RAD City bikes- cresting over a hill.

Regen kicking in never occurred to me! I’ve never tried to pedal while braking, but I assume the brake cutoff would override the pedal movement and not reactivate the motor. I’m thankful this isn’t happening with my bike, but it would sure be nice to have access to one to help debug the issue.

2 New RAD City bikes- cresting over a hill.

With other people reporting similar symptoms after long hill climbs, it sounds to me like maybe the motor is overheating and causing friction due to thermal expansion, then things go back to normal after a brief cool down period. From the information I’ve gleaned over the years, it seems direct...

RadRunner Plus StepThru or RadCity StepThru?

Pure speculation on my part, but I would not be surprised to see a geared hub motor on the City within a year or two. Now that the Wagon is going geared, the City is the lone holdout with a direct drive motor. I can see Rad wanting to standardize all their bikes on geared motors to simplify...

2 New RAD City bikes- cresting over a hill.

Have you touched the motor housing to see how hot it may be? Same with the controller box? It sounds like quite a hill to pedal in 1st gear at PAS-5. How many minutes (or seconds) does it take to crest the hill? Over what distance? Can you continue pedaling in 1st gear and PAS-5 after you...

RadRunner Plus StepThru or RadCity StepThru?

Another option to think about: I think a new seat or gel cover plus a new seat post would run more like $50 or less, not a couple hundred. I see gel covers for $20-$30 and posts for $10-$20 on Amazon. The gel cover may provide enough cushion to the original seat to make it a more comfortable...
