Fat man bike; long time rider, but not ebikes

That's good to know I was wondering how low you could go. Mines a 46 which used to be included free. Now they charge $20. My original big sprocket that came with the bike was a 48. You say a 52 is bad on the O2B and O1B motors. What exactly is an O2B etc? I can offer the OP some advice if he...

Fat man bike; long time rider, but not ebikes

Msrpwr I ordered my Bafang kit from eBike Essentials. This is not a promo for them. However: 1. The parts are all stocked in the US although almost all of them are made in China. 2. The website tells you upfront if a part is out of stock. 3. I ordered on a Friday and it was shipped Monday and I...

Fat man bike; long time rider, but not ebikes

Yup, I'm always in low. It's really steep here with lots of ups and downs. The 6% grade warning signs that you see on the highways is kid stuff. Before my conversion I would avoid many streets because the pitch was brutal. Now I go where I want. I'm not bitchin, the pedaling is not that bad most...

Fat man bike; long time rider, but not ebikes

I have this and my bike can't do any of the steep stuff on it's own. There are a zillion hills around here steeper than 10% grade and I do have the standard 46 tooth sprocket. On the other hand I regularly do a road route back to my hacienda. It has really wide shoulders and I'm zipping along at...

Fat man bike; long time rider, but not ebikes

I 2nd what was already posted. If you like your bike then just convert that. I have a Specialized Crosstrail with the Bafang 1000 watt mid-drive and big battery. It doesn't suck. And only $1500 with all the gizmos.

    Crank squeak

My issue was the kickstand bracket. The frame would torque just enough to make it creak. I took the mid drive out a few times chasing this down.

    Question on 'dropped chain'?

I think I was rougher on the mechanics than I should have been. On the other hand there are loads of really steep hills around here so the parts are always getting a workout, I should lube more too. I got an education on this thread...

    Question on 'dropped chain'?

I had this really bad, like every ride bad, sometimes multiple times in a ride bad. Turns out my chain was stretched which makes it not fit the sprockets perfectly. I have a new chain now and all is groovy again. Do you have a chain gauge to check yours? You can also just do a visual and can see...

    Front derailleur with dual chainrings?

I saw a bike on here somewhere that had this setup and was thinking of doing it to mine. My mid drive has the standard 46 tooth Bafang front sprocket but my original sprocket was a 48 T. I was thinking about going bigger on the front to reduce some wear on the little sprockets in the rear. I...

easy-rolling ebikes when unpowered (what brands)

I do get out with it several times a week. I did a 74.8 mile ride this summer! I usually keep it PAS 3 out of nine so I'm always pedaling. I think the (my) other issue is it's mostly hills around here, lots of really steep ones. I really notice the grade now that I don't have those 2 smaller...

easy-rolling ebikes when unpowered (what brands)

I played with my bike yesterday. It seems like initially there's a bit of resistance which goes away after you get a bit of speed going. I am stuck with only the 46 tooth chain ring now so that's part of it plus the added weight of the mid-drive and big battery. My bike weighs 58 pounds...

easy-rolling ebikes when unpowered (what brands)

My Bafang mid drive is definitely hard to pedal unpowered, so I never do. I'm pretty sure I am spinning the motor and it really saps my juice. I am always pedaling otherwise.

    Chain Wear

My chain was beyond 0.75%. I ordered that SRAM chain, installed it and all is good now mostly. I get a click in high gear sometimes, my bike tech warned me about this with those ding dang high powered mid drives. 36 mph can cause some grief.😢

    Chain Wear

I ordered the SRAM EX1 chain as Robertson recommended and also ordered the Park chain wear tool. I'll hold off on the cassette for now and see how it goes. I'll be traveling a bit so the bike won't get that much use in the near term. Barcelona in 12 Days!!!! ABCs in Jan, Paris in March. It sucks...

    Chain Wear

Robertson, so most rear clusters are made of what if they aren't steel? Some steel alloy perhaps because a magnet will stick to mine. My bike guy just installed what he had there. Shimano? Thanks everyone.

    Chain Wear

Hey Rome, brake fluid strips paint so it might not be the best choice. FWIW I am serving a prison sentence (seems like it) in Charleston Westfuckingvirginia. It's a total s*it hole and I mean the entire state. This area has endless really steep hills but at least they are short. The road to my...

    Chain Wear

Hey 6ZF, that link takes me to a DLC12 chain that costs $140!!!! It must be made from the same gold used in Trump's toilet. Or is there another chain that works? Like the E9 for only $50. And Cow, did you do 4100 miles on 1 chain? Thanks everybody.

    Chain Wear

So I have a Bafang mid drive 1000 watt motor on my Specialized Crosstrail. I replaced the chain last year when I did the conversion and then replaced the chain and cassette ($90) about 5 months ago and now the bike tech said it needs both again. He showed me the stretch and how the gears are...

    It Works!!!!!

I thought most bike theives today prefer a cordless grinder. Noisy, but it will cut through your setup in 30 seconds or less.
