    Replacement front chainring

With my changeover to the 11-42 Shimano XT 11 speed on my base Turbo, I went back to the 48T. Personally, I think this is ideal since an 80 cadence gets you to the 40+kmh range in top gear. If you are riding in mountainous terrain and want to pedal monster descents in leg power, up to 54T bcd...

    The new turbo Vado 2017

Ya know, I have enjoyed my Turbo and do not regret purchasing it. While it is true that I wrote a detailed letter to Specialized outlining a support program Id like to see, I, like many, am not too concerned. Yes, I would like to see a product life cycle management approach that emphasized...

    The new turbo Vado 2017

Drew (and others), I don't know the status of the Turbo SC battery availability or your source of data. If you would like to communicate with the Product Manager for the Turbo line, her name is Olivia Bleitz and her email is: [email protected]. She is out of Specialized's HQ at...

    The new turbo Vado 2017

Hey all, I have nothing in writing yet and only the briefest of conversations. I am assuming that the 691 Wh batteries are just on backorder now. Put one on order and see when you can get it. The 504 Wh batteries are available and are discounted to under $700.

    The new turbo Vado 2017

Spoke very briefly through a bad cell connection with the product manager. She was surprised I had not gotten her email. I will try to get this in writing, but her words were that the Manager of Warranty support wrote her that the legacy Turbo line would continue to be supported, including...

Known Issues & Problems with Specialized Products + Help, Solutions & Fixes

What I saw at the dealer when he was using the diagnostics to try and get a report on the various health and firmware versions of the original 468 Wh non blue tooth battery, motor, and controller was not an easy to use GUI. He had to reboot and try to reconnect numerous times before it would...

Specialized Vado - Do I need a s-pedelec (large person)

Part of the speed potential of the Vado 5.0 vs. 3.0 is based on the power of the motor (350W vs. 250W), part is the electronic governing speed sensor attached to the rear disc rotor (see the manual), and part is based on gearing (48T vs. 40T chainring). Note that the Vado 4.0 (same...

Known Issues & Problems with Specialized Products + Help, Solutions & Fixes

My experience parallels your except my LBS was willing to spend the time to learn how to maintain the bike. The underlying issue is that the Turbo firmware was not designed to be user maintainable. IMO, the support tools were just a bunch of development tools designed to be used in the lab...

    The new turbo Vado 2017

I believe that the $3200 and $4600 are the correct prices. While the web site is evolving, keep in mind that Specialized hasnt yet formally launched the Vado line in the US. Once the launch event happens I will believethe pricing.

    The new turbo Vado 2017

Today I followed up my phone conversation with a formal email to the Turbo Product Manager. Key things I asked for were 5 year availability for out-of-warranty spares through the dealers and/or accessory catalog for: Battery - At least the option to purchase a 691 Wh battery which can be used...

    The new turbo Vado 2017

Court some mistakes on your Vado 5.0 comparison. The 5.0 has a top speed of 28 mph. Also the front fork is not an SR Suntour but is a solid fork.

Known Issues & Problems with Specialized Products + Help, Solutions & Fixes

General issues for the Turbo family that seem common after 4 years: Handlebar Controller with thumb joystick is fragile and not easy to use. Formula C1 brakes on base Turbo and pre-2016 Turbo X are noisy. Firmware updates for all models are infrequent and difficult for dealers to do. Still...

    The new turbo Vado 2017

Not that I know of, but they have never had to deal with the kind of potential obsolescence that is implied by the proprietary parts of an e-bike. As long as I have been riding (since 1970), higher end bicycle manufacturers basically made frames and then used off the shelf components of...

    Can't shut 'er down!

Keep trying. It is more than a quick touch and less than holding it down for several seconds. I also found that it was easier with fingerless gloves or no gloves. Holding the button down causes the bike to go through power-on diagnostics and cycle the 4 lights on the battery.

    The new turbo Vado 2017

ronin2000, Let's wait and see. I am certain that regional sales folks and dealers are NOT going to have all of the information on long term availability of drive system parts (handlebar controller, batteries, and motors) for the Turbo family. All of the rest (brakes, mech, rims, spokes, tires...

    The new turbo Vado 2017

I know that the Turbo Levo (and similar Vado) have bluetooth. Is the bluetooth function it in the battery or resident in the bike frame itself? A key issue is not just the bluetooth, but the actual motor control and on-bike interface functions (power settings, etc.). The microprocessor and...

    The new turbo Vado 2017

Folks, I just got off the phone with the U.S. Product Manager for the Turbo line at Specialized HQ. I explained that battery availability is not just a warranty replacement issue for 24 months, but a long term support issue due to the proprietary nature of the battery system. I asked for a more...
