Known Issues & Problems with Specialized Products + Help, Solutions & Fixes

Hello. I had the same issue with my Specialized Turbo. My local bike shop (LBS) ordered the part for me and I installed it when it came in. The part number for the LCD controller is different depending on whether your bike had Formula C1 Brakes and SRAM derailleur (2015-16 Turbo and Turbo X) or...

    Chain ring tooth selection

Barry, I assume this is for the conversion to a 48T chain ring and new 10-speed rear cassette. Keep in mind that based on your own power output, your mid-drive Vado 4 will be at least doubling torque stress over a similarly geared hub drive or non-assisted bike. Further, compared with a...

Vado Front Sprocket Change 40T to 48 Tooth Who has done this ?

There are two issues here: 1) The first issue is to be able to maintain cruising rates above 20 mph without having to spin yourself to death on Como and Vado equipped with the 40T sprocket. Ideally you want to be able to spin at the upper range of your aerobic output (75-90 rpm typically) at 28...

Vado Front Sprocket Change 40T to 48 Tooth Who has done this ?

The issue is that the tight bends around the small sprockets cause more stress on the chain and on the sprocket, resulting in more wear. By going to the larger front sprocket, you ride higher on the cassette and avoid the premature wear and worn out cassettes and chains many experienced on 40...

Vado Front Sprocket Change 40T to 48 Tooth Who has done this ?

Add 8 chain links to whatever you have.

    New Turbo Vado 5.0 is a 2021 :)

I am still riding my 2015 Turbo (base model with Turbo S battery and Shimano XT 11 speed). I have also upgraded to a Kinekt seatpost and a suspended stem to improve the ride. What kind of brakes/shifter does your 2021 Vado 5.0 have? Tires? Does it still have fenders and Racktime rack? Of...

Larger a chain Ring for Vado

Just have them get you a Vado 5.0 chain ring and bash guard and add 8 links to the chain.

Larger a chain Ring for Vado

The OP's LBS is misinformed (like totally). The Vado 4.0 (NOT SL) has a 10-speed Shimano mech with 11-42T cluster and 40T chainring. For comfortable cruising above 20 mph it really could use a 44T to 48T chain ring. The constant 40x11T cruising tends to put a lot of wear on the chain and the...

    Specialized’s ultra-light 120-mile range e-bike - Turbo Vado SL

I'll buy one when the Covid-19 vaccine becomes readily available. No rush.

    Specialized’s ultra-light 120-mile range e-bike - Turbo Vado SL

I am currently riding a 2015/16 base model Turbo with the 200W rear wheel motor. While I love the bike, 20 lbs would be very nice. The Turbo Vado SL 5.0 EQ seems just about right to me. My only question is how expensive is the add-on waterbottle battery and how many watt-hours does it give you...

    WTB - 1st gen Turbo parts - 2015-2017

Hello, I have a 2015 Specialized Turbo (base model) with the 200W motor. I have already upgraded the battery and derailleur to the Turbo S spec of those same years (691Wh bluetooth and Shimano XT-8000 11 speed with 11-42 cluster). The stock brakes, fenders, seatpost, lights, stem, grips, etc...

    WTB - 2015 to 2017 - 1st Gen Specialized Turbo parts

Hello, I have a 2015 Specialized Turbo (base model) with the 200W motor. I have already upgraded the battery and derailleur to the Turbo S spec of those same years (691Wh bluetooth and Shimano XT-8000 11 speed with 11-42 cluster). The stock brakes, seatpost, lights, stem, grips, etc. have also...

    Have a 2015 Specialized Turbo X

Often this is a loose connection at the top of the battery. There is a plate on the bottom of the frame that can be adjusted to put more upward pressure on the battery/frame connection at the top. It holds the battery in more securely. If the battery is bouncing, it may momentarily disconnect...

    Suspension seat post - Kinekt

I rode a Thudbuster ST for 2 years before I bought a Kinekt. The Kinekt seatpost is great. I did have to drill a hole for the wire to the taillight embedded in the back of the seat on my gen 1 Turbo.

    Como Slipping fix?

The COMO with 40 tooth front sprocket does not have high enough gearing for cruising at or above 20 mph. Using the 11 tooth rear causes extreme chain and sprocket wear. Many COMO users have reported this problem. One solution is a higher quality sprocket and chain. Check to see if this a recall...

Fender recommendations for Turbo (hub drive)

Specialized made (no longer available) a fender set for the 1st gen Turbo's. It required some mods to work on the front fork of the Turbo X. I suggest that you just look at old postings about fenders for Turbo, Turbo X, Turbo S and see what others used. You may have to bend up and drill some...

    Brakes

Consider replacing your pads with Kool Stop pads. Make sure you get ones for the correct model of Formula brakes. These are a composite material, stop better, and make less noise than the stock pads.

    Bike Size

It may have fit if the seat post was very high. There is tremendous flexibility in seat to pedal distance to accommodate legs of different lengths, but essentially very little seat to handlebar adjustment to accommodate different arm and torso lengths. You should get help with sizing at your LBS...

Got my 2015 base Turbo out for the first time in over 1.5 years

Glad you are recovered. Ya know, I would love to have one of the 500w Turbo S wheels for my bike. I would use the 200W wheel for long rides with my daughter and the 500w for gonzo solo rides. It would be fun.

    Thudbuster vs Kinekt seat posts

Agreed with J.R. I have used both (Thudbuster ST). The Kinekt/Body Float is much more comfortable for me. No comparison. I have not tried the Thudbuster LT so don't know how much smoother it would be.
